Outdoor Track and Field 2025+: More PBs and Titles!


To complete the 2026 Outdoor Big Ten Track and Field Championships, the Nebraska Cornhuskers compiled five conference titles and three runner-up performances.

The men finished as runners-up, tied with Minnesota at 81 points, with event titles from Dyson Wicker, James Ledbetter and Keyshawn Strachan. With an identical 81 points, the women’s team finished in fifth place, with gold medal performances from Axelina Johansson and Kelsie Belquist.

With the Huskers’ first of three titles of the day, Wicker became the men’s pole vault Big Ten Champion with a meet record mark. His outdoor school record mark of 5.72m (18-9 ¼) gave the sophomore his second Big Ten title after he cleared 5.79m (19-0) at the Indoor Championships in February.

In just her fourth time running the 400m hurdles, Belquist claimed the Big Ten Title with an effort of 56.11. With a personal best time, Abrielle Artley came in a close third, claiming six points for the women’s side. She ran a personal-best time of 57.76 to earn her first medal in Big Ten competition.

Immediately following on the men’s side, Ledbetter recorded a personal best time of 50.82 to win the Big Ten Title. Last year at the outdoor championships, the sophomore claimed a sixth-place finish with a time of 51.83.

Mason Kooi claimed his first Big Ten medal this championship with his silver medal placing in the men’s high jump. His 2.18m (7-1 ¾) was enough for eight points to the men’s efforts. Fellow junior, Aleksandr Gerasimov, notched a season best, clearing 2.12m (6-11 ½) for fifth place.

Berlyn Schutz used a 4:17.46 in the women’s 1500m to capture a silver medal. Last season, she finished eighth at the conference championships with a time of 4:16.54.

In the men’s shot put, Hencu Lamberts hit a personal best mark of 20.29m (66-7) to earn a silver medal, eight points for the Big Red men and move into fourth in school history. Following just behind with a mark of 19.68m (64-6 ¾) was Cade Moran with his third medal in a Big Ten Conference Championship.

Closing competition for the day in the 4x400m, the women’s team of Sakena Massiah, Artley, Victoria Aransiola and Belquist ran a new best time of 3:31.59. This time is a further improvement on their 3:32.46, fifth-place mark in school history. The men’s side of Ledbetter, Jacorric Allen, Logan Lebo and Richard Simpson harnessed four points with a 3:09.10, fifth-place finish to hold onto second place overall for the men’s team.

Louis Martinez moved into a tie for sixth-place in the Nebraska record book with a seventh-place personal-best mark of 5.42m (17-9 ¼) in pole vault."
 
"Nebraska track and field sophomore Dyson Wicker was named the Big Ten Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Championships on Wednesday. It marks the first time Wicker has earned Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championship honors.

A native of Heath, Texas, Wicker captured his second career Big Ten pole vault title at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships last week, clearing 5.72m (18-9 ¼).

Wicker swept the Big Ten pole vault titles this season as he won the indoor title with a school record mark of 5.79m (19-0)."
 

"The Nebraska track and field team concluded day one of the NCAA West Regionals with four athletes qualifying for NCAA Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon. Hencu Lamberts, Cade Moran, Keyshawn Strachan and Augustus Henry all locked in spots with their performances.

Lamberts claimed second in the men’s shot put to secure his spot at outdoor nationals, throwing 20.24m (66-5) to finish second at regionals. Moran followed closely behind with a mark of 19.61m (64-4) earning third and a spot in the shot put finals in Eugene.

In the final event of the day, Strachan launched a 76.00m (249-4) throw in the men’s javelin to secure a spot at outdoor nationals. Henry used a personal best, 72.82m (238-11), to finish sixth at regionals and grab a spot at nationals alongside Strachan.

James Ledbetter ran the eighth-fastest time in school history (50.24) in the men’s 400mH prelims to qualify for the regional finals on Friday at 7:25 p.m. (CT).

Hannes Fahl qualified for finals in the men’s 800m, crossing the line in 1:48.34. The 800m finals will be on Friday at 7:05 p.m. (CT). "

"Six Huskers earned their bids to NCAA Outdoor National Championships on Thursday at the NCAA West Regional in Fayetteville, Ark.

Jana Lowka was the first to qualify in the women’s javelin, with Dyson Wicker qualifying in the men's pole vault next . In the women’s shot put, Axelina Johansson, Mine De Klerk, Donna Douglas and Jolina Lange all punched their tickets to Eugene, Ore., together.

Johansson was the top qualifier in the women’s shot put, throwing 18.53m (60-9 ½). De Klerk (17.24m, 56-6 ¾) and Douglas (17.19m, 56-4 ¾; No. 8 in school history) finished in third and fourth, respectively. Lange was the fourth Husker to qualify with a mark of 16.64m (54-7 ¼).

Lowka launched a 54.46m (178-8) throw in the women’s javelin, earning her spot at nationals and finishing as the fourth qualifier in the region.

Wicker cleared 5.37m (17-7 ¼) to tie for seventh in the men’s pole vault and earn his first trip to the outdoor nationals. The sophomore swept the indoor and outdoor Big Ten pole vault titles this year as a sophomore.

Berlyn Schutz won her heat of the women’s 1500m, crossing the line in 4:21.02 to qualify for Saturday’s quarterfinal at 5:15 p.m. (CT).

Kelsie Belquist ran the eighth-fastest 400m hurdle time in the region, circling the track in 56.62 to qualify for Saturday’s quarterfinal at 7:25 p.m. (CT)."

James Ledbetter continued his climb in the record books, running 50.00 in the men’s 400mH to qualify for NCAA Outdoor Nationals and move into fifth in school history.

Hannes Fahl cut nearly a second off his previous best, running 1:46.85 in the men’s 800m to slot himself into fourth in Husker history and move onto nationals.

Aleksandr Gerasimov was the first Husker to qualify on Friday after clearing 2.17m (7-1 ½) in the men’s high jump to secure his spot at nationals.

The Big Red return tomorrow for the final day of regional action with Amelia Flynt and Donna Douglas competing in the women’s discus to begin the day at 1 p.m. (CT). All events will be streamed on ESPN+."

Keyshawn Strachan launched a throw of 80.65m (264-7) in the men’s javelin to earn a silver medal and First-Team All-America honors.

Cade Moran was the first Husker on the podium, claiming a bronze medal in the men’s shot put with a personal best-tying throw of 20.21m (66-3 ¾). The junior from Murrieta, Calif., also claimed bronze at indoor nationals in March.

Hencu Lamberts added a fifth-place finish in the shot put, throwing 19.71m (64-8) in his first NCAA Championship appearance. "
 
"Axelina Johansson became the women’s shot put national champion after setting a meet record with her throw of 19.92m (65-4 ¼). Johansson completed her career with the Big Red with a total of eight All-America honors and fourth total national title.

After winning the Big Ten conference title in May, Johansson set a personal best and meet record of 19.97m (65-6 ¼), good for the second-furthest mark in NCAA history. '

Following Johansson on the podium was Mine de Klerk, who notched a fifth-place finish with her throw of 17.86m (58-7 ¼), also claiming first-team All-America honors. With second-team All-America, Donna Douglas threw a 16.94m (55-7) for 15th. Freshman Jolina Lange finished in 17th with a throw of 16.29m (53-5 ½) for honorable mention All-America.

In the women’s javelin event, Jana Lowka earned second-team All-America honors with a ninth-place throw of 54.02m (177-3). "
