Our Passing Game is Terrible

Our passing game is terrible. We don't have any wide receivers that stretch a defense. For the life of me, I don't understand why we aren't letting our talented freshmen receivers play.

We will not be able to run against Michigan like we have against La. Tech. and NIU. We HAVE to develop a better passing game.

Offense in general is terrible.

How many drops did Washington have? How many open wrs weren't seen by our qb?
Now let's talk passing game strategies

8 of 18 for just over 100 yards against perhaps the worst defense we will see this year. And several sacks allowed too. Yeah, I would say that's a problem.

I think Fidone will be First Team All-Big Ten -- if/when we get a competent offense, and quarterback to feed him the ball more.

You can clearly see his athletic talent -- but with what we've got now, he'll be vastly underutilized.

That said, I'd think he's probably easier to find open than our very average WR corp.

Feed Fidone!

I'd put the Over/Under for total points for Nebraska at 14.5. I think quite a few here would take the under. Maybe that O/U is too generous.
It might depend on the qb. I don’t think we get 14 with HH. We need the balance of a better passing game of Sims but if he keeps turning it over we won’t get 14 with him either.

It wasn’t great in the 80’s and 90’s either. . I’m throughly convinced running the ball is our salvation. Always has and always will be. Something in the water I guess.
There were plenty of times in the 80s the lack of an effective passing game cost us because we were unable to run. Adapting that model of run is unlikely to re-present itself in a positive way. As we are already seeing, we win the second half against the non conference weaklings and lose everything else. Nobody in the 21st century has been successful with a poor passing game like ours.

To me it also feels that our pass catches don't seem to be running routes, like it's just a bunch of people playing flag football together for the first time. Where are the underneath routes, the slants, the intermediate in and out routes, etc. It just seems like a bunch of our dudes running straight lines towards their dudes.

The touchdown by Fidone was a perfect example of what can happen if we actually run routes instead of the backyard football pass plays.
