Not only that but when Ron Brown was a RB coach it was the best position on the field.Ron Brown's receivers were fantastic blockers. Ron Brown is on this staff. Just saying.

I didn't catch the RJ DS comment in full either, but I think he said he expects them to play.Hard to know what the "best" approach is. But I agree with Rhule - you're a good football player, you want to go to the NFL, so do the players you are opposing. Go make a play. Go beat them. If you are supposed to block the safety, block the safety. Don't catch a kickoff on the 2 yard line.
IMO, he has to give the players the credit - and the responsibility - to do the job. No lowering of expectations because someone had his feelings hurt.
I had a hard time hearing his comments - did he say both Rahmir Johnson and DeShawn Singleton were in the concussion protocol this week?
This is my thought when wondering players or coaches. Ron Brown is there and well known for teaching WRs how to block. At any time has Rhule not used anything he can get from past coaches? No, he's embraced the old coaches and has had them at practices many times. I have a hard time believing Rhule hasn't had Ron Brown's success mentioned to him and he hasn't taken it.Been my thought for some time, why isn't he coaching these receivers better on blocking? He was a master of that back in the day.
The differences between Frost and Rhule are oceans wide. I wasn't a fan of his little comment but he did say he isn't seeing it himself and it's not an excuse. Frost blamed the players and Riley for everything.Rhule pulled a Frost by stating in different words that he inherited a team with weak confidence. It's on Rhule and staff to build their confidence.
I'm calling my shot right now just like I did then. This isn't going to end well. And I'm not calling for firings. I'm just saying that however long the Matt Rhule lasts, it's not ending with Nebraska back to relevance.

He said we will find about a lot about ourselves going forward. We will find out about the coaches, the players and himself. Sounds like everything is on the table.
I doubt anything we do was invented at Nebraska. Schemes work if executed as they are supposed to be carried out. I suppose the question is whether every player on our current roster has the ability and desire to carry out their part. If not, can we replace the components that don’t work or tweak the offense to better fit what they are capable of doing, or maybe scheme around the weaknesses.
But getting real simple here, if our jimmie’s can’t push their Joe’s, no scheme is going to work. We must control the line of scrimmage more often than not and our players have not been able to do that for the better part of a decade. If we can’t create holes to run the ball, there is no quick fix available.
Recruiting and development at every position group is the solution going forward it seems to me. Maybe that recruiting includes position coaches that can inspire the way Pelini did in the past or Cignetti is doing today. Hopefully, Rhule is open minded and will take a critical and honest look at his staff. If he decides to keep them, I’m fine with it. But he has to ask the questions and put everything under a microscope.
It seems to me that head coaches often do this only to buy one more year on their contract before they get the boot. I don't think Rhule is on the hotseat until about this time next year. I would think he would want to act soon. This 100%.
And do it before it's too late which is typically the case with Head Coaches.
My take is that when its pretty much every receiver, every game, that's clearly a coaching issue. Boy Wonder needs to do better ASAP.I'm sure it's on everybody, but I thought he was pretty clear, our perimeter blocking has been bad all year. If you can't run into a run blitz successfully you screen or bubble screen to stop that, which is a coaching adjustment. But if you can't rely on your perimeter blocking the adjustment is not going to work.
So now the real coaching starts, is it a coach that can't teach blocking, or is it a receiver that wants to catch the ball but doesn't give it 100% when it comes time to block. None of us knows for sure which it is, but Rhule will have to decide and act accordingly somewhere down the line.
