NU v Illinois, Game #2, 4/25

Three hits but only 1 run
9-5 after 7 1/2 innings

Now 9-5 after 8 innings
Quit that idiotic peacocking at 2b after a double. Act like you’ve been there before.
NU breaks it open in the 9th. It’s 12-5 and we’re still batting.
12-5 after 8 1/2 innings.
I have to go. I think we will win.
NU wins 12-5
All the stats show us dominating….
But that game was excruciating…
Should’ve put them away so many times….. and our pitching was NOT sharp.
And the errors…. Lordy the errors.
Now Illinois field has always caused us problems…. The artificial turf.
I took my high school team up to the Baltimore area to play one of the Catholic schools in a preseason game and one of the rich donors had completely redone their field with artificial turf.
It was damned hard to play on… the ball just zips on the field, and the bounces are higher.
But we did really well on double plays so I guess it’s an offset.
They’re gonna be days like this….. games like this… you just have to fight through. The good news is we came out on top and I think we’re set up nicely for the series final.
But Lord, if we walked one more batter in that game, I was going to jump out of the AMTRAK train I was riding back home from Baltimore.
