"The Nebraska track and field team secured five more bids to the NCAA Championships on day two of the NCAA West First Round at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday.

With the Husker women earning five national qualifiers on Thursday, Nebraska now has 11 total bids to the NCAA meet with two days of competition left at the regional meet. "

"Harris, last year's NCAA runner-up, had the second-best javelin throw at the regional, 186-1 (56.72m). Otabor, the school-record holder who finished fourth in the nation last year, qualified with a mark of 170-11 (52.10m). Otabor and Harris rank first and second in the nation, respectively.

Johansson, the nation's leader in the shot put, threw 61-3 1/2 (18.68m) to qualify with the second-best mark at the regional meet. Latimer will join her at nationals after a season-best throw of 57-2 1/4 (17.43m), the No. 4 throw in school history.

Williams recorded a season-best 20-10 3/4 (6.37m) to earn a trip to nationals in the long jump. Williams finished 17th at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event. "

"The 4x100m relay team - Brithton Senior, Kavian Kerr, Lorenzo Paissan and Garrett Kaalund - ran 39.03 to qualify for the NCAA Championships with the third-fastest time. The Huskers entered the meet seeded 21st out of 24 teams.
They broke the previous school record of 39.19, set in 2005.

Darius Luff will make his way to Austin, Texas for the NCAA Championships in the 110m hurdles after finishing second overall with a time of 13.44. Luff has the No. 3 time in the NCAA this season (13.32).

Tyus Wilson and Michael Hoffer both qualified for the Big Red in the high jump. Wilson will head to his first NCAA Championships after clearing 7-0 1/4 (2.14m). Hoffer also cleared that height and will make the trip to nationals for the second time in his career."

Yerigan, who began her Husker career in 2017, will make her first career trip to the NCAA Championships after recording a personal-best 5-11 1/2 (1.82m). Yerigan brought home the bronze medal at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships two weeks ago and has set personal records in each of her last two meets.

Phipps came up big on her last triple jump attempt with a season-best leap of 43-10 1/2 (13.37m), which moved her into the top 12 and locked up a trip to the NCAA meet. Phipps was a two-time nationals qualifier at Kansas State in 2021.

The 25 team points came from two individual national champions - Axelina Johansson (shot put) and Rhema Otabor (javelin) - and a fourth-place finish from Maddie Harris in the javelin.

On the final day of the meet on Saturday, Rhianna Phipps jumped 43-9 3/4 (13.35m) in the triple jump to finish 13th and earn second-team All-America honors.

Jenna Rogers placed 13th in the high jump, clearing 5-11 1/4 (1.81m). The second-team All-America honor is the fourth All-America honor for the sophomore.

Madison Yerigan also cleared 5-11 1/4 (1.81m) in the high jump and finished 18th, which earned her USTFCCCA honorable mention.

The Nebraska men's track and field team finished the NCAA Outdoor Championships in a tie for 17th place with 16 points on Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

It marked both the most points scored and best finish by the Husker men at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2016.

Tyus Wilson had the top finish on the day for the Huskers, tying for fourth in the high jump. Wilson cleared 7-1 (2.16m) and was part of a five-way tie for fourth place, which earned the NU men three team points and earned Wilson first-team All-America honors.

Darius Luff was also a first-team All-American after finishing sixth in the 110-meter hurdles. Luff ran 13.38, the second-fastest time of his career, and picked up his third career All-America honor.

Maxwell Otterdahl placed 13th in the discus with a throw of 192-3 (58.60m). He collected his second All-America honor of the week, as he finished fourth in the shot put on Wednesday.

Michael Hoffer cleared 6-11 (2.11m) in the high jump to tie for 14th, securing second-team All-America accolades.

Johansson, a sophomore from Hok, Sweden, won the NCAA shot put national title with a mark of 63-3 1/4 (19.28m). Johansson put on a dominating display at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, as each of her six throws would have won her the NCAA gold medal. Johansson became the third Husker female to win an NCAA shot put title. She also was named the Big Ten Women's Field Athlete of Championships after winning the Big Ten shot put with a personal best and meet record 64-1 1/4 (19.54m). Johansson's throw was a Nebraska school record and a Swedish national record. It was also the top mark in the NCAA this season, the No. 2 throw in NCAA outdoor history and the No. 7 throw in the world in 2023. Johansson swept the Big Ten indoor and outdoor shot put titles this season, and she was the NCAA indoor runner-up in March. "

"The Nebraska track and field program continued its dominant success in the javelin on the national stage this week, as Rhema Otabor and Dash Sirmon won the national javelin titles at the BAAA Bahamas National Championships and USATF U20 Outdoor Championships.

Otabor claimed the national javelin title with a personal-best heave of 196-0 (59.75m) at the BAAA Bahamas National Championships in Nassau, Bahamas. Earlier this summer, Otabor was crowned the NCAA’s national champion in the javelin with a school-record throw of 195-2 (59.49m) on her second attempt.

Also representing the Big Red at the USATF Outdoor Championships, Jenna Rogers placed second in the women’s high jump with a clearance of 6-1 1/4 (1.86m). Rogers’ runner-up finish comes after she placed 13th at the NCAA Championships and won the Big Ten title in the outdoor season."

"Garrett Kaalund, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas, took silver in the men’s 200-meter dash on Sunday.

Kaalund finished the race in a season-best time of 20.65 seconds after finishing the preliminaries in a time of 20.75 seconds earlier in the day. The freshman was one of two Huskers that competed in the 2023 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships."
