NFL salary cap

So, the all the NFL teams have a ‘salary cap’ for 53 players. I know all this BS market garbage, but what really happened, was one team 10-15 years or so ago, paying a QB a ridiculous contract. Since then, it’s exploded to unreal levels, with every player coming up, getting more. Someone please explain to me, how one player, taking 20-25% of the entire payroll, is a good business model? I mean, think about it like I do for a minute. There is no way, me personally, could take that much money, knowing we need players to win. I’m already super rich, why do I want to hurt my team, my teammates? I don’t understand that thinking. We are talking about people already rich AF, why would you directly want to hurt your own organization, for your own personal greed/selfishness?

We aren’t talking about someone going from 58k, to 120k here. We’re talking about people going from 40m, to 60m. The Dallas Cowboys should let Dak Prescott walk. He’s already overpaid. I just find all this money going to a handful of players to be ridiculous. None of the plays work without all 11 men executing at a high level. Does anyone ever have enough? I’m sure I’ll be ripped for this, but I just don’t understand greed and destruction over success and winning. Makes no sense, and to me, makes those individuals someone I don’t respect.

They can do this because you and I and 100,000,000.00 of our closest friends are paying for it. Thank you for your donation to the uber wealthy. They couldn't get along without you.

Not me, I don’t watch it religiously. Passingly is the better term. Still doesn’t explain how anyone would want to hurt their own team, for themselves.

The ego of some individuals is so large that don't understand that it is those around them that make them great. And because of that, they deserve the most. If they succeed, it was their individual effort that made it happen. But should that individual fail, then this is where they acknowledge those around them. Because it was those around this individual that actually failed, causing the individual's failure.

Not a good thing, but sometimes that is the problem of an ego.

One could have an ego without outright killing their own teams. No one person should get 25% of all the money for 53 players. It’s butt ass stupid. I’ll never understand it. They’d all do it for 1m, if that’s all there was. Few, could get any job paying over 75k in the real world, and they know as much.

Jerry Jones is a buffoon. But it's his personal toy, and he likes tinkering with it - way, WAY more than winning.

This was the hidden secret of the Patriot's 20 year run under Belichick and Brady. You can debate who was a better QB, Brady or Manning, but you cannot debate who the better value was. Brady consistently took below market deals that allowed the Patriots to spend more money on other positions, best positioning himself and his team to win.

There was only one year where Tom's cap hit was larger than Peyton Manning's, and oddly enough, that was the year the Colts won the Super Bowl. Heck, Ben Roethlisberger, who everyone would say was a step below Brady and Manning as a player, out earned Brady after his rookie contract.

Why do the star athletes demand so much money? Because it's a way of keeping score. I set the record for largest contract, I'm the highest paid Center Fielder, I'm a super max guy... Does it hurt the team? Yupp. Is it more money than the could ever spend? Likely. Is it a way of showing they are the best and of getting bragging rights? Absolutely.

The real question is why do teams agree to pay the QB's such a high %. Well, recent NFL history has shown their are two ways to get to a Super Bowl. Have a tippy top QB, or have a rookie contract QB. Since 2013, only the '21 Rams won the Super Bowl without a top 5ish QB or a rookie contract QB. Of SB losers, only the Jimmy Garoppolo 49ers fit the bill.

It seems like the market inefficiency is in the middle ground. If you don't have a Mahomes or Allen you would be better served to roll the dice with a rookie or spending 5% of the cap on Derek Carr, while spending up on other positions than you would be giving 15% of the cap to Daniel Jones or Baker Mayfield.
