Nebraska's Special Teams

I only ask because I simply don't know, who was he going to hire? Ekler and the Iowa dude that went to Michigan State were the top special coaches, and as previously stated he offered Ek one of highest paid salary among specialist coaches, are you suggesting he should have chosen to name him a position coach as well or offer him the top salary. If so would you not blame him for overpaying. He is at a point in his tenure here whether or not he goes one way or the other it's a lose - lose situation. Obviously since his 3rd year hype did not go as predicted, we have fallen back to the let's blame the coach until we get a new one mentality. I get it, I am just as frustrated, the hard part is there are other teams that are doing better faster. I don't know the answer I am just as clueless as the next guy, but we have Rhule for a minimum of 2 more years let's hope it works out, and then in 2 years reevaluate the situation, see if we see progress or you can cry for another 2 years at unknowns. I apologize for the rant please continue and offer your opinion even if they are opposite mine.
Who? Do you know how many experienced special teams coaches there are out there? We are a blueblood. I don't think anyone actually thought we'd have a hard time finding one. I would have overpaid all day long for the right candidate as we saw how big of an impact ST can be after being so bad for so long. I appreciate your post, but I am disappointed in the hire. I just hope Maher has the goods and proves me wrong, which certainly won't be the first time. Onward and upward (hopefully).

Fair and reasonably thought out response.

Maybe Rhule is paying attention to lessons learned by Fred H. A couple hotdogs in the room are less effective than a TEAM. Mike Ekler moves around a lot (not talking about the sidelines). You have to wonder why. The crap on the sidelines draws attention to him, not the team. Kind of like see Dylan at every husker event every time the camera was around. Fred stopped getting hot dogs and bought in on team.
All I know is Ek got actual results on the field on Saturdays. Made a much quicker and bigger impact on his phase of the game than his fellow assistants. Ya gotta like Fred and I would love to think Rhule is learning from him but I don’t see it.

"Power conferences — particularly the Big Ten and SEC — are not places you should give coaches their big break. You need to hire established, proven commodities".

Quote from the article.

Something we just ( our coaching staffs...past and present ) can't seem to figure out.
