Nebraska Wrestling Results: B1G/NCAA championships 2022-23

Summary - all qualify for the national tournament.

Champion:
197 lbs. 2. Silas Allred

Second Place:
125 lbs. 2. Liam Cronin (NEB)
141 lbs. 3. Brock Hardy (NEB)
157 lbs. 1. Peyton Robb (NEB)
174 lbs. 2. Mikey Labriola (NEB)

Final Team Scores - I thought we'd be settlings for 4th going into the 184 match. Pinto's pin provided bonus points to move us back ahead of Ohio State, then Allred's title clinched it. Great showing for Big Red!

Getting third at the B1G is almost harder than getting 3rd at Nationals.

Congratulations to Allred on our first individual B1G title since 2015 (Kokesh).
Dean is ranked #6 in the nation and Allred was #13.
'Disappointed that Hardy and Robb didn't win their matches. They should have/could have.
Penn State coaches know how to get their wrestlers motivated for championships.

7 automatic qualifiers for NCAA championships.

All these wrestlers will be back next year except Cronin, Labriola, and Morton.
Hardy is a RS Sophomore.
Robb is a Jr.
Wilson is a Sophomore.
Pinto is a RS Fresh.
Allred is a RS Sophomore.

Is the kid from Idaho hurt and RSing? He hasn’t wrestled all year.

I think we should be pretty solid at Nationals. The five that made the semifinals are top flight guys that should be able to advance and get team points. There is not much depth behind them and I don't know how well the other two will do...they both exceeded their Big Ten seeding, so hopefully that continues for Nationals.

I am not sure when the at-larges are selected and the brackets finalized. Here is list of all automatic qualifiers.

"As for the team race, Nebraska certainly has a chance to have one of its best finishes ever this year. Based on seeds alone, the Huskers are projected to finish 4th, just behind Cornell and just ahead of Missouri. Nebraska has never finished better than 3rd place (1993) and hasn’t won a team trophy since finishing fourth two years in a row in 2008 and 2009."

As I did during the Big Ten tournament, I'll try to track and edit this post as results come in.

First Round:

Nebraska's NCAA Championship Lineup*
125: #3 Liam Cronin over #30 Antonio Lorenzo, Cal Poly, 9-4
141: #4 Brock Hardy over #29 Jordan Titus, West Virginia, 12-4
157: #3 Peyton Robb tech fall over #30 Jared Hill, Oklahoma, 15-0
165: #25 Bubba Wilson upsets #8 Matthew Olguin, Oregon State, 3-1 with a take down in SV.
174: #2 Mikey Labriola beats #31 Tyler Stoltzfus, Lock Haven, 9-6
184: #13 Lenny Pinto lost to #20 Neil Antrassian, Virginia, 11-6
Pinto had a takedown and near fall in the first minute and 5 seconds, but then gave up 11 straight.
197: #8 Silas Allred beats #28 Michael Battista, Virginia, 13-7

*Number indicates seeding

A solid first round. Picked up a big upset by Wilson; but, Pinto's match offset the upset.
