Wrestling is on break. I believe the consolation rounds are back up at 4:30 Central Time, semifinals at 6:30. I've seen references to a 9th place bracket, but am not seeing that posted anywhere.

Consolation Round 2:
165 lbs. 10. Bubba Wilson (NEB) beats 9. Sparks (Minn), 3-2
184 lbs. 7. Lenny Pinto (NEB) vs. 9 Connell (ILL), advances on medical forfeit.

Consolation Round 3: (guaranteed at least 8th place)
165 lbs. 10. Bubba Wilson (NEB) upsets 4. Facundo (PSU), 3-2. He'll finish at least 6th.
184 lbs. 7. Lenny Pinto (NEB) vs. 6. Malczewski, (MSU), advances on another medical forfeit.

Semifinals (on BTN at 6:30 pm)
125 lbs. 2. Liam Cronin (NEB) beats 6. DeAugstin (NW), 2-1.
141 lbs. 3. Brock Hardy (NEB) beats 2. Bartlett (PSU), 7-3
157 lbs. 1. Peyton Robb (NEB) edges 4. Saldate (MSU), 4-3
174 lbs. 2. Mikey Labriola (NEB) edges 3. Smith (OSU), 4-3 (takedown with 20 seconds to go in a 2-2 tie)

184 lbs. 7. Lenny Pinto (NEB) vs. 4 Matt Finesilver (Mich)

Championship Matches (Sunday afternoon, 3:30 pm):

141 lbs. 3. Brock Hardy (NEB) vs. 1. Real Woods (IA)

197 lbs. 2. Silas Allred (NEB) vs. 1. Max Dean (PSU)

Team Scoring (through Saturday night). Iowa has only three wrestlers in the championships; Penn State has six. But, the Husker guys will be underdogs in 4 of the 5 title matches. Ohio State has only 2.

I did find the 9th place brackets. The Big Ten does have 9 or 10 automatic qualifiers to nationals at several weight classes, so I guess these 9th place brackets mean something even though there is no team scoring from them. (Not 100% sure of this if anyone knows better than me?).

133 lbs. 12. Kyle Burwick (NEB) lost to Norris (PUR), 6-2 in quarterfinals
149 lbs. 11. Dayne Morton (NEB) - bye, will face 12. Harrier (ILL) in 9th place semifinals
285 lbs. 14 Austin Emerson (NEB) - lost to Joles (MINN), 4-0 in quarterfinals

I'm really happy of how this wrestling team has jelled and improved from the beginning of the season. Most of the polls had NU at #16 at the beginning of this season, especially with Lovett redshirting. Now we're #4 for dual meets and #3 for tournaments and proving it!

Well done NU wrestling coaches. Should be some great matches today.

Starting in a few minutes - I either messed up last night or they changed the brackets.
149 lbs. 11. Dayne Morton (NEB) - vs. 10. White (RUT)
winner gets 12. Harrier (ILL) in 9th place finals

The Big Ten gets 9 wrestlers to Nationals at this weight class, so Morton still has a chance to get there with two wins.

149 lbs. 11. Dayne Morton (NEB) - loses to 10. White (RUT), 4-2 in Sudden Victory.

Morton is now matched up against 2. Gomez (WISC). It looks like Gomez was hurt in an earlier match and been medical forfeits since. No reason for Gomez to wrestle for 11th if there is any question of health. It seems likely he'd get an at-large invite to the national tournament if he can recover.

Coming up soon.
Consolation Semifinals (guaranteed 6th place finishes):
165 lbs. 10. Bubba Wilson (NEB) vs. 2. Cameron Amine (MICH)
184 lbs. 7. Lenny Pinto (NEB) vs. 4 Matt Finesilver (Mich)

165 lbs. 10. Bubba Wilson (NEB) loses to 2. Cameron Amine (MICH), 3-1 in double tie-break. A great match.
- Wilson was called for locked hands late in the first tie-break and then gave up the escape. Forced to start up and try for a takedown, came up short.

For Fifth:

165 lbs. 10. Bubba Wilson (NEB) v. 6 Maxx Mayfield (NW)

Even though we have 5 in the championships, Ohio State has been sneaking up in the team scores on the back side.

Here we go! Championship Round Starts Now. I'll update results here as the matches finish.

Championship Matches:
125 lbs. 2. Liam Cronin (NEB) loses to 1. Spencer Lee (IA), 8-2 (Lee with 55th straight win, first time in five matchups that Cronin did not get pinned (3 times) or tech fall by Lee.

141 lbs. 3. Brock Hardy (NEB) loses to 1. Real Woods (IA), 2-1. Hardy was in on a shot in the final seconds; but, could not quite convert to a take down.

157 lbs. 1. Peyton Robb (NEB) loses to 2 Levi Haines (PSU), 3-1 in SV. Robb's first loss of the season. Robb had a takedown at the end of the first period that was ruled OOB. Robb seemed very defensive to me. Haines is a true freshman.

174 lbs. 2. Mikey Labriola (NEB) loses to 1. Carter Starocci (PSU), 6-1. Labriola just couldn't get any offense going.

197 lbs. 2. Silas Allred (NEB) knocks off 1. Max Dean (PSU), 6-3, with three take downs! Impressive match! That should clinch team 3rd.

For Fifth:

165 lbs. 10. Bubba Wilson (NEB) loses to 6 Maxx Mayfield (NW), 3-1. Got taken down with 30 seconds left in the match.

184 lbs. 7. Lenny Pinto (NEB) pins 8. Brian Soldano (Rut) in 1:10. Great finish for Pinto. OSU has the #2 wrestler in this weight group, need him to lose he title match to have a chance at team 3rd.

I felt we needed the Robb win; Ohio State moved into 3rd by a 1/2 point and it was looking like a 4th place finishI. Needed something big down the stretch and Pinto's pin did exactly that. Now we hope OSU doesn't put up more points. Penn State has clinched the title.

Allred wins the 197 championship and I think clinches 3rd for Nebraska. OSU has their heavyweight going for 3rd.

Summary - all qualify for the national tournament.

Champion:
197 lbs. 2. Silas Allred

Second Place:
125 lbs. 2. Liam Cronin (NEB)
141 lbs. 3. Brock Hardy (NEB)
157 lbs. 1. Peyton Robb (NEB)
174 lbs. 2. Mikey Labriola (NEB)

Fifth Place:
184 lbs. 7. Lenny Pinto (NEB)

Sixth Place:
165 lbs. 10. Bubba Wilson (NEB)

Final Team Scores - I thought we'd be settlings for 4th going into the 184 match. Pinto's pin provided bonus points to move us back ahead of Ohio State, then Allred's title clinched it. Great showing for Big Red!

Congratulations to Allred on our first individual B1G title since 2015 (Kokesh).
Congratulations to the team finishing 3rd in the toughest wrestling conference in the Nation!

Dean (2022 National Champion) is ranked #6 in the nation and Allred was #13.
Really disappointed that Hardy and Robb didn't win their matches. They should have/could have.
Out of five finalists, Allred was the was the only one able to get it done. After going 5-for-5 in the semis, Nebraska went 1-for-5 in the finals, falling to a few all-timers along the way. Nebraska’s five finals opponents own a combined six NCAA titles.
Silas Allred became the first Nebraska wrestler to win a Big Ten title since Robert Kokesh in 2015. Between that win and the time Allred's final match rolled around, the Cornhuskers had lost 13 straight Big Ten finals (four in 2023). That marked only the fourth Big Ten title since Nebraska joined the conference in 2011-12 (Kokesh 14/15, James Green 2014).

Penn State & Iowa coaches know how to get their wrestlers motivated for championships.
7 automatic qualifiers for NCAA championships.

All these wrestlers will be back next year except Cronin, Labriola, and Morton.
Hardy is a RS Sophomore.
Robb is a Jr.
Wilson is a Sophomore.
Pinto is a RS Fresh.
Allred is a RS Sophomore.

Don't want to forget Lovett who Redhsirted.
