Wrestling: Freshman Araujo Earns Bronze at U20 World Championships

Joining fellow U20 Bronze Medalist Camden McDanel (2023) as an incoming freshman, LJ Araujo claimed World bronze this weekend at 79 kg while wrestling for Team Brazil

"For the second year in a row, a Husker commit went to the U20 World Championships and brought home some hardware.
Team USA wins U20 Worlds with 9 medals.
Last season, Camden McDanel captured World bronze at 97 kg. After a grayshirt year, he’s set to join the team this season as a true freshman. This past weekend, Araujo matched McDanel’s feat with a U20 World bronze at 79 kg wrestling for Brazil. Araujo will also be a true freshman this season. McDanel was ranked #37 on FloWrestling’s 2023 Big Board, while Araujo was #26 in the class of 2024."

This means that Nebraska will be adding TWO U20 World medalists to its roster this season. To put that into perspective, before this season, Nebraska has only had ONE U20 World medalist ever. That was in 2000 when then-freshman Jason Powell won silver at 54 kg after redshirting. He went on to earn All-American honors three times at Nebraska, winning an NCAA title at 125 pounds in 2004 as a senior.

In high school, Araujo was a five-time North Dakota state champion with a career record of 140-3. He could be in the mix this year at either 165 or 174 pounds for the Huskers."

Ty Eise Undefeated at Elite 8 Duals

"Wrestling for Team Dynasty, along with a host of Nebraska kids, Husker commit #3 Ty Eise went undefeated against a stacked field at 175 pounds over the weekend.
In his final match on Saturday, Eise won a tight 2-1 decision in tiebreakers against #9 Emmit Sherlock, a member of the U17 World Team this summer.

On Sunday, Eise again went 3-0 highlighted by an 8-4 win over #15 Mason Ontiveros of Team Carnage."

"Huskers add Big-Boarder Nikade Zinkin out of California for their 2025 class. A state champion out of California for Clovis High School, Zinkin committed to the Huskers over the weekend. Ranked #46 overall on the 2025 Big Board by MatScouts and #70 by FloWrestling, Zinkin is ranked #5 (MatScouts) and #7 (Flo) in the country at 144 pounds. A senior this season, Zinkin is a three-time placer at state in California and just won his first state title as a junior at 126 pounds."

"Zinkin joins a pair of commits for the 2025 class in Ty Eise (#24 on Big Board) and Cade Ziola (#35 BB). Now with three commits in the (MatScouts) Top 50 overall in the class, this class with low numbers is seriously high on potential. Nebraska’s class is currently ranked #8 in the country by FloWrestling."
