Nebraska vs Bethune Cookman

They have guys who aren’t healthy yet, and a ton of new faces still trying to mesh. Fred also tends to start seasons with large rotations, and that creates some challenges in continuity, but helps show what guys do in game situations.

The 3 point shots will fall when guys start finding their groove in the offense. You can shoot from a spot in practice, but the speed and timing in game situations change things just enough to make guys clank the iron.

We need to remember that Walker and Mast were anomalies, but even with what they brought to the table, they left a lot to be desired defensively and we could get overmatched rebounding. This is our first big roster, let it season a bit.
I agree with the rotations and meshing with everyone but the 3 point shooting still scares me. The two teams that the Huskers played certainly didn’t need game speed to light it up right away. Hopefully they don’t have too many nights where everyone is off on the 3 like last night.

Hoping they will come together and be competitive again this year. :Huskerflag:

Let Essegian get comfortable in his new environment and with his teammates. He can become that consistent threat.

RGV, that’s their style, that’s what they recruit to and live and die on and they only shot 31%. I don’t know as much about BC, but they apparently didn’t shoot particularly special, with 34% being pretty pedestrian.

The ball coming to you from different teammates really is a factor in shooting the ball. I played with the same group for probably 3 years, and one of our backup PGs just NEVER seemed to get me the ball the way I wanted it. I’ve always told people the key to good shooting beyond form and technique is, getting the ball on time, on target and in rhythm. Players need a little time to learn each other, both in delivering and receiving the ball. We have 3 guys I think will be solid 3 point shooters, so it might be good to be a little patient in the early stages of the season. Just my opinion.

I have to say both point guards didn't impress me! Hope they get better

This is not going to be a good year for NU basketball.
Gary is going to give his all every night. Hoiberg is going to give great energy. Williams needs to match those two. These 3 can be the core that the new guys can build on. Berke has talent but needs another month or so to get himself in B1G condition. There is another big kid who has been out with some kind of issue, so he's going to need a little time as well.

This team is not going to look like our last 2 seasons. No more Tominaga bombing from anywhere, no more Point Center feeding teammates from the high post (at least until Berke is full speed). But we shouldn't see our lane and rim being attacked without repercussions. We shouldn't see games that we just can't seem to control the boards to keep teams from getting second and third shots.

Most teams have to learn to adjust based on the guys they have on the floor, and Fred's no different. He may like the 'position-less' offense, but there are teams in the B1G that make that kind of play really challenging. I think we have enough diversity on the roster to be able to play just about any style we'd need to this season. The one exception might be a team of greyhounds that want to score 100 points with 10 minutes left in the game, but thankfully, I don't see many of those on the schedule.

Good post, we will see how things play out.

I think Morgan can finally start to get back in shape now -- get got his skull caught between Meah and the rim, and it was bad enough looking/sounding that the trainers stopped practice and took him away. I thought Morgan would be the starter, and I still that happens as he's got years of experience and some good post up and passing skills.
