Nebraska vs Akron Game Thread (9/1/18) Huskers want to find a game to fill schedule this year

Nebraska weather sometimes you can't predict the severity accurately sometimes. I don't think anyone knew 2 days in advance how bad the lightning would be. Heavy rain is one thing and lightning is another. We haven't had a ton of lightning this year.

It is only my personal observation but predicting the intensity, timing and placement of thunderstorms two days ahead of time is less than a 50/50 proposition.
No joke, ask all of the storm chasers. Generally see them Hauling arse towards where ever storms are firing up

Possible bye date opponents - I think it's more likely that we'd get Akron back on championship weekend if we need to be bowl eligible. Or, perhaps Iowa State if we are both 5-6?

Central Florida would be sweet.

That's a different scenario. Those are super cells. Isolated cells that pop up with minimal boundaries to fire upon.

What hit Lincoln last night was a long, training line of thunderstorms, which is much more predictable in timing and location.

I did wonder about that.

It's interesting that it was our associate athletic director making the in-game calls while watching lightning strikes on radar. He also mentions "his people," and a "weather center," but I wonder if they are actually employing meteorologists to assist in the decision-making. Because I can't figure out what took so long to finally call the game, when any meteorologist would have said "no chance" at least 2 hours before they finally threw in the towel.

Also interesting that there was no discussion during the week of moving the kickoff up to earlier in the day on Saturday. Even though there was apparently discussion of the weather concerns all week (according to the article).

UNL may just need to hire me for a small fee. ;)

True, thanks for the schooling. .Just trying g to help temper all of us over excited, yet disappointed fans. Knew it was going to be shatty, but went anyway. The little cell that blew up SW of town was the one that did us in. I was at Smoker's tailgate watching the radar and that lil bugger blew up quickly within a 10-15 minute timeframe. By the time it had passed, the rest of the crap out by Hastings had caught up.

Should be a lesson learned by the Athletic Department and consideration for contingencies at future events.
