Nebraska looked at rejoining the Big 12

After 2010, we weren't really that good anymore. Good enough to beat teams we're supposed to and win games, but never a contender and never upsetting a highly ranked team. And that was the high point as it got worse after Bo left.
It has nothing to do with the conference change and everything to do with who was running Nebraska football.

Oh ok.

Sure it does. Has a lot to do with it. NU has no natural teams to play, nothing to sell to recruit's, far away travel, and no recruiting foundation whatsoever (although that’s really irrelevant now), it wasn’t at the time. Other than money, it’s had zero benefit. Cue the academics folk.

You know what else is nice? Knowing you will actually still have a conference in 5 years. Your love of the old Big 8 days is really clouding your judgment on what an actual dumpster fire the Big 12 conference was. So yeah, those paychecks and stability sure are nice, nicer than being stuck in no man's land trying to find a conference.

who got stuck in no man's land trying to find a conference?

who got stuck in no man's land trying to find a conference?

Washington St and Oregon St for starters. Cal and Stanford basically begged to get picked up. Thats what NU was looking at in that era. Texas was starting their own network, there were already rumors of Texas and OU looking to leave, the commissioner was incompetent, the worst tv deal of any P5 conference, and the rest of the conference hated NU. What were they supposed to do?
And the Big 12 still hasn't fully recovered.

No, moving back to the Big XII wouldn't have helped. At the time, it wasn't a B1G problem, it was a Nebraska problem. We had people in charge who were constantly making bad decisions for Nebraska. I'm not certain if the Nebraska problem was arrogance or ignorance, but it was definitely an in-house problem.
I would almost argue it was intentional. I mean, how could any supposed smart people, be so damn stupid? Seriously? Ask yourself that question. Instead of working with, and making the young, reasonably successful coach happy (66-27), let’s alienate him, piss him off, fire him and bring in the old ass, .500 lifer as a coach? That’s only one of the ignorant, stupid decesions that were made, by what are supposed to be from smart people. You just can’t be that stupid. I’d argue all day it was intentional.

You're thinking the old Pac 12. We weren't in that conference.

What has the Big 12 not recovered from again? They are way under the Big 10 and SEC in media payouts, but they always have been for as long as I can remember? Is it hurting any of them? What's their record against the Big 10 over the last 5 years, excluding OU and TU? 14-17. Pretty much a tossup.

Current teams in the top 25 basketball? 6 for the Big 10, 6 for the Big 12.

What do team merch sales look like for DONU these days, compared to the Big 12 days? How much booster money are we getting from North Texans for Nebraska these days? That organization had thousands of members that would invade every game in Texas and Oklahoma. How many private jets are flying into Lincoln from Texas for games these days? Texas was a juggernaut for Nebraska. Those days are gonzo.

Im well aware what conference they're from, im using that as an example of what can happen when your conference dissolves. Which was absolutely on the table with Texas starting their own network and looking to leave.
The Big 12 is a far distant 3rd and might go to 4th if the ACC gets their act together. They aren't a serious contender in football consistently.

I get it that you miss the Big 12. But NU had to do what was best for the University and athletic department. Maybe if our "friends" in Lawrence, Manhattan, Stillwater, Ames, Columbia, and Boulder stood with us, there would have been a different outcome.

Far distant 3rd by what measure? By the number of playoff bids offered by the SEC/Big 10 Invitational?

I don't miss the Big 12. I watch it all the time. Except in Stillwater.

The Big 12 sided with Texas on most issues and told Nebraska to pound sand. Sensing the lack of loyalty/brotherhood from the original schools Nebraska…rightfully so decided to leave.

If you have truly forgotten how tenuous the situation was in the Big 12 you need to go back and look at the articles. I am not going to look them up because they are easy to find using your favorite search engine.

The Big 12 was close to falling apart with the threat of Texas, A@M, OU, and OSU possibly bolting to the Pac 12. Couple that with the mentioned voting against Nebraska at almost every turn and you can see why Nebraska left.

With all due respect…if you can’t see the situation Nebraska was in at that time…then you are just trolling and I know you like to do that from time to time.

I really don't think he's trolling, I just think he loves the Big 12, for whatever reason that may be.

I also know he likes to troll for fun based on some of the emoji’s used based on responses to certain posts. That is why I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I really didn’t know the extent of Bill Moos’ drinking until I saw that he looked at rejoining the Big 12…anyway, that’s over let’s just all agree to focus on the present!
