Nebraska looked at rejoining the Big 12

I am not hating on him at all. He helped Nebraska manage a very challenging time during the early stages of the pandemic.

However the thought of Nebraska willingly moving back to the Big 12 is not feasible for many reasons.

Probably not. It was just interesting. You can't walk away from the Big 10 paychecks. Golden cuffs on the nuts.

At the same time, I don't think anyone would argue that the Big 12 was by far a better fit culturally. Nebraska will always be an outsider in the Big 10.

There were some trade offs when the decision was made to move but many forget the tenable situation Nebraska was in at that time.

Got the cash, lost the panache. Ditched the hot girlfriend because she drove a Honda. Ran off with the warted beach ball because she drives a Lambo. Oh well. Keeps ya warm in the winter, sleep in the shade in the summer!

Your memories of the Big 12 are far different than mine.
Yeah I loved it and still do. It’s been fun having the Utes, BYU, and the Arizona schools. Some fun new road trips. Don’t know that I’ll ever try to make a game in Boulder or Cincy. Hard pass on those two.

I remember pay per view games even for conference games, dysfunction, the worst refs in all of college football, league offices being moved from KC to Dallas, and 11 members voting against NU any chance they got. The good ol days they were not.

We know the money is more in the Big10, but what we don't know is if moving back would have helped with getting NU back from the depths of hell, thus generating more money.. Would that have been close enough? no, I am sure it wouldn't have been.

As much as I do not like the SEC, thanks to ESPN being their pimps, that would have been a smarter move. IMO anyway.

I hear this “culture“ argument often but I don’t get it. How does B1G culture differ from Big/PAC/AAC XII culture and why NU can’t eventually acclimate to the B1G.

I don't get the Bill Moos hate.
Agree. Nobody was going to pass on Frost at that time. It would have been professional suicide to not pursue him. We were all thrilled to have him. Nobody, except maybe Kendra, could have predicted just how bad it was going to be. On balance, I think Moos was fine. Certainly better than his predecessor.
99.9% of Husker fans wanted Scott Frost ... no question about it.

I can even accept an argument that Moos had little to no choice in hiring SF. [I personally am extremely bothered by the fact that he "knew" of SF's immaturity during the interview process ... and his admission in the book tells me that he and his $1M+ salary should have stood up and said no.]

Nevertheless ... my "hate" is that I believe Moos hired SF and then washed his hands ala Pontius Pilot saying "not my fault".

An AD's job is NOT finished when he hires a coach. His job includes managing the coach, providing the coaching a sounding board, guidance, assistance when needed, to provide resources and a counter balance. Look at Dannen with Rhule. He's not micro-managing Rhule but he is ... involved. He's supportive. He provides assistance when needed. He makes sure the train is still on the tracks and moving ... maybe not fast enough but moving in the right direction.

Moos allowed SF to run THE cash cow of Husker Athletics with little to no guidance. He didn't push back on staffing, assistants, behavior nor performance.

Because the B1G "culture" is snobbish. Look at how the conference acted during Covid. SF and Nebraska wanted to play football games but was ostracized by conference leadership. Michigan leadership stood up treating the hicks from Nebraska like petulant children.

The "culture" is their self-congratulatory academia beliefs. Go to a Husker game in Ann Arbor, Madison or State College. The elitists on their campus can't believe Husker fans have learned to walk upright.

Well put.

Just think about the roots of each region.

Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas (aside from Dallas/Austin) … farmers, ranchers, agriculture, salt of the earth.

Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania … larger cities, blue collar, more density of population, factories, labor intensive, older larger university institutions.

I think institutionally … academically what is UNL known for … agriculture. What is Michigan known for … engineering. Same for Purdue. Michigan St is known for education. Iowa is known for health sciences.

Should feeding the world’s population receive more notoriety? Sure … but the B1G elitists will never concede that.
