I am mistaken, Nebraska moved to the 4-3 defense in the middle of the 1992 season against Colorado (Halloween game I was at) and fully implemented in 1993.

Missed it by half a season.

Those were 3 of the last 4 games of the season. It was a brutal end to the 1990 season…especially having a small lead against Colorado heading into the fourth quarter to get blown out in the end. The weather was not conducive for Colorado to explode in the fourth quarter yet they put up 27 in the final 15 minutes.

According to the link below, Nebraska had not played a ranked opponent all season until Colorado.

Up 12-0 starting the 4th quarter in freezing rain. I remember a few oranges being thrown on the field to start the 4th. Oof, that game was brutal.

From rereading your posts, I think I am agreeing with you, and disagreeing with @RedRum.

At the time, I thought Frank was the right coach for Nebraska. After the 2002 season that ended with a 7-7 record, Solich had "tweaked" the system by replacing the majority of his assistant coaches. The 2003 season ended with a 10-4 record, which I saw as an improvement, mainly brought about by the changes in coaching. The season wasn't perfect, but I could see improvement, especially on defense.

From what I remember at the time, some "donors of substance" were pressuring to have Frank fired. My opinion, the donors were impatient to let Frank's tweaks take full affect. The donors just wanted someone fired.

I absolutely recall many calling for TO and CM’s head. In 1993 on the football forum’s the calls for TO’s head grew more intense after losing 7 bowl games in a row. Couldn’t win the games that mattered, couldn’t recruit, slow players, outdated offense were the predominant comments on the forums. It was brutal.

They were called different names prior to what we know as forums today. They started in the late 1970s. I participated in football chats starting about 1991 using a 1200 baud modem to connect to a bulletin boards of various sorts. I started with a 300 baud modem in 1989 but i didn’t stumble onto the football online culture until 1991.

I think the first major football forum like we know today was Austin 360 I’m not sure exactly when that started, but it was about 1994 or so. I am sure there are members here from the Austin 360 days.

1999. There were no forums in 1993 that I am aware of. Joe Hudson started his Yahoo Geo-Cities site in 1995 that didn't have a forum.

I did a google search and got this. I was a member (ditto) that was there for the split to the dedicated Husker forum. There were several spin off groups. I went with the group that started a forum that changes ownership several times, including when Tony Davis was part of it.

The forum was very active with multiple members. Probably in the thousands at Austin 360. With the split, hard to say as I didn’t follow the other groups. Must had hundreds of active members.

For those that are interested in a history, I pulled this up from a couple sources. I primarily did this as a sanity check on my memory. It’s no surprise that Huskers dominated ( alongside those nasty horns) the early forums and BBS. As always, AI is not always accurate, but it does loosely tie to my recollection.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of information that still exists on the many independent Husker sites that existed (there were at least 2-3 good active ones) as they were eventually bought out by the likes of Rivals and other such organizations. The way back Time Machine doesn’t go that way back. Tony Davis board is one such forum and my internet search only found old farts like me referencing that and other sites.
