Nebraska backs out of Tennessee football series

Well that sucks. I was looking forward to traveling to TN...

Tennessee will no longer play Nebraska in a home-and-home football series that’s been on the books for 19 years because Nebraska is buying out the contract.

Nebraska will pay UT $500,000 in liquidated damages plus any expenses incurred in pursuance. It’s a relatively small penalty for a buyout, but that’s because the contract is so old.

I bet 227 is why we did this. Before the drop we'd have OSU, WA, WI and TN on the road.

2026 isn't near as bad with MSU, Ducks, Rutgers, IA on the road.

The LJS article indicated that Dannen wants to make up for lost revenue by having the south stands torn down. But this seems to have been rumored for years now. A real downer regardless but hey, we get Miami (OH) and Bowling Green instead so yay! :Sarcastic:

This isn't a bad deal. I know the NonCon schedule in 2026 of Ohio, Bowling Green, & North Dakota is less than stellar, but with conference games against Washington, Ohio State, @ Oregon, and @ Iowa that season is going to be tough enough. In 2028 Nebraska hosts Arizona, and the final OU/NU series will be played in 2029 & 2030 so there are some decent series coming up! NU might need to go the route of 90's K-State and Bill Synder nonconference scheduling to get some early W's to build up some momentum entering B1G play.

Sucks. Knox Vegas 3 hours from my front door. But the pumpkins pulled out of our earlier game. Still...was looking forward to this one

Crap, my sons in-laws are from Tennessee, they were already planning for the Lincoln/Knoxville trips. I might have gone along. I know that Rhule is doing schedule management in hopes of fielding a playoff eligible team. Hope we get there.

I totally understand the disappointment that many are feeling that had plans and/or were looking forward to this match up.

I also totally understand ADTD’s rationale for making this decision.

At the end of the day, I support ADTD doing what he committed to do on day one, and that is do whatever he can to help the team (and the program) win.

GBR!!
