Nebraska at Oregon

What hotels are recommended?
The ones right downtown near the UO campus are nice, but heavily booked. Expect to pay a pretty penny.

The Gordon and The Graduate are two of the really nice ones that aren't too far from the stadium, although you'll probably still want an Uber.

The other option is to look by Gateway Mall in Springfield or Valley River Mall in Eugene. There is an Autzen Stadium shuttle (maybe $10 bucks) that will take you right to the stadium and it does round trips to both mall areas. Also a good option if you opt for a rental car or you road trip out here. Park at the mall and ride the shuttle instead of fighting the mob in the Autzen parking lots.

Valley River Inn is an old school upscale place that's been renovated in recent years. It's got a quirky charm and is also right adjacent to the mall and a bunch of chin places like Red Robin, Olive Garden, BJs, Red Lobster, and Elmer's.

If you go Gateway, there are some lower price places like La Quinta and, again, you're near shopping and food. IHOP and Denny's are both right there if you're a breakfast diner person.

Appreciate the info.
Will make a plan.
Hopefully someone can come up with a place to tailgate.

There are some pretty big UO tailgates, but honestly, I've only been to maybe 3 Duck games and haven't really joined in the festivities that much.

I'll ask around with some of my buddies who are UO fans.

Guessing we could just crash one, have no idea.
That's what the visitors do when they come to Lincoln

Here's a good thread from Reddit from a few years back.

The Moshofsky Center is the Ducks practice facility (adjacent to Autzen) and they turn it into an indoor tailgate with beer vendors, food trucks, and jumbo screens showing games from across the country.

More tailgating and parking info from my Duck buddy:

"Parking in the Autzen Lots are hard because it’s all reserved by donors. Nearby, you can get parking at The Masonic Lodge, Boy Scouts Troop 100, Lane County Youth Detention, and The Science Factory. I don’t believe any of them offer single game parking permits in advance. Should work if you show up early enough on game day at any of them.

I’ve tailgated at all of those locations. Alcohol is permitted at all lots starting six hours before the game, although I’ve drank in the Masonic Lodge parking lot eight hours before kickoff without any problems.

If anyone has an RV, I recommend Masonic Lodge because they’ll usually let you park it on Friday before the game on Saturday."

When I lived in Eugene the best thing going was PF Changs which isn't saying much. Otherwise King Estate. But it's been awhile, maybe it's better now.

There's a lot of solid places.

If you like quirky, farm-to-table kind of stuff, Eugene is overflowing with options.

Same goes for Asian cuisine, just due to proximity and Asian immigrants to the Pac NW. There are several amazing Thai food places here.

I should probably look up a Best Of or food guide, and then add my two cents on top of it. I'll see what I can find and post it here.

---edit---

I started looking and there's...a lot of places to eat here. Probably better if people toss out some places they're considering and I'll chime in with my angry old man opinion.

Alternatively, if you're the kind of person who values the dependability of a chain restaurant and isn't a big risk taker with new dining experiences, here's a list of chain places we have. I'll skip the fast food / McDonald's / Starbucks stuff.

  • Applebee's
  • BJ's
  • Cafe Yumm
  • Denny's
  • Elmer's
  • IHOP
  • Mucho Gusto
  • Noodles & Co
  • Olive Garden
  • Outback Steakhouse
  • Panera Bread
  • PF Chang's
  • Red Lobster
  • Red Robin
  • Texas Roadhouse
  • Wingstop

Okay, see below for a map to help you plan out your trip to Eugene.

I've added details about Autzen Stadium and it's entry policies, the shuttle service Autzen Express (buy tix online, no cash), and added a bunch of convenient hotels in proximity to either Autzen or a shuttle stop.

I've also added (convenient, not all) locations for Walmart, Target, Costco, WinCo, Albertson's and Safeway, should you need to buy food, groceries, travel supplies, etc., when you arrive in town. And of course, the location of Bass Pro / Cabela's in case you need any last minute outdoorsy stuff like ponchos, umbrellas, or stadium seat cushions.

Tagging @BigRedMax in case this is useful to any group planning stuff.
