NEB vs PSU - Thursday - 12/19/24 - 8pm ctrl (Approx) Nat'l Semi-final - Louisville

......well it appears we were easily the second best team this year. PSU going to win number 8.

No, we were easily the BEST team this year. We just let PSU and their transfers get in our heads. If you watched most of the matches this year, you could tell we just didn't play up to our normal level in either match against PSU. I just feel bad for Lexi and Kennedi that they didn't get a ring. But I guess that's the way the ball bounces.

EVK…I normally agree with most of your post on the main board but…

How about PSU was the better team and proved it twice on the court? Nebraska did what they could but it wasn’t enough. It hurts to see the Huskers lose especially with players that have been there so long but it is ok to give the opponent credit.

There is always next year and I will be in attendance for the Final 4 in KC.

Well, maybe I'm just a sore loser... or maybe I'm sore about the fact that PSU "bought" their team (2/3 of their players were developed by someone else). I realize that the transitive property doesn't apply in sports, but if you look at comparative results throughout the season, we outperformed them all year except for the 2 matches where it mattered.

Or maybe I'm sore that I spent all that money to go to Louisville and expected to see them in the title game...

I’m old school and still believe in building your team. We have 5 freshmen coming in and 5 seniors leaving. I hope it stays that way.

Maisie and Laney would be the most likely to leave in my opinion and I just don’t want to see either go. Love the team we have, just need to get one game better.

Thoughts on captains for next year? Guessing Bergen and Harper (outside chance of Beka - my favorite). If I had a concern for out team, that would be it.

I can't think of anyone on this team that I would be OK with them leaving. I believe the I would be upset if any of the remaining group transferred out. I would also hate to see any of the coaches leave, even though I know that is inevitable (I just hope that it isn't this year). I don't know much of anything about the new freshmen coming in, but I hope they are able to blend in to improve the group as a whole. At least 1 (if not 2) games better.

If they found someone in the portal they liked it would be possible to add someone even with 5 seniors out and 5 freshmen in. Volleyball went from 12 scholarships to 18, so you could add a player that way if you wanted. But then if there was someone good enough we wanted them I'm sure they could come up with enough NIL money to take care of that.

This 100%.

Someone obviously disappointed and angry with the outcome recently texted me that, "Nebraska was better than both PSU and Louisville."

I simply replied that at least the team that beat Nebraska twice, is the National Champion and that in the future Nebraska needs to play like the better team and assure that the outcome (aka scoreboard) reflects that.

Totally agree that we just need to give the opponent credit when/where credit is due.

GBR!!

I want to agree with what you're saying but...

That match left me feeling almost like I did after the 1982 FB game at PSU (you know, with their "extended sideline"). Sure, two completely different ways to lose a game, but it left a similar taste.

I'll grant that PSU won this one fair and square, on the court.

And always in the past, when a team beats my team, I always want that team to win out, or at least look as good as possible -- because that makes us look better. I could never understand fans saying "I hope they lose all the rest of their games". But this is the first time I wanted the team that beat us to lose the next one. Simply because it was the "Jurevicius revenge factor" that played a major part in the performance of both teams.

(Oh, and I've never been one to make excuses before, either. So there's that.)

Again I think Terry Pettit has a pretty good take on it.

Good analysis by Coach Pettit.

Jess Mruzik had 29 kills, Camryn Hannah 19, and Caroline Jurevicius 10 in the championship match. The middle attackers, Taylor Trammel and Maggie Mendelson, had 14 kills and a combined .413 attack percentage.
Every one of these top performers were playing for a different (D1) team 2 years ago.

Oh, and there's this comment:
Raisin bran would be Cornflakes if it didn’t have raisins.
Actually, it would be Wheaties...
