NCAA Selection Show

As someone else suggested, it was actually Arkansas that got screwed. Possibly more than any #1 overall seed in recent memory. They may have the best two-seed and best three-seed in their region. The best overall team should have the easiest path in their opening regional. Arkansas does not.

The Kevin Warren follies roll on. The lack of out of conference games killed Nebraska. Listening to commissioner Sankey from the SEC last night during their conference championship, when asked how he structured the schedule for the season he said the first thing he did was contact the selection committee to see what their priorities were. He learned that out of conference competition was going to be paramount. Mr Warren couldn't even get a schedule together until everyone else was playing games.

My advice to Mr. Warren, quit and disappear. I know that's not going to happen so my second recommendation would be, get Commissioner Sankey on speed dial and do whatever he does.

I would love to know what commissioner Warren considers the the highlights of his tenure.

Yup. The Big 10 screwed themselves.

That's a good point. Arkansas is #1 and won their conference tourney if I heard correctly. It's a tough go but these guys are gritty and play a style of ball that could frustrated Arky. GBR!
Handled it well I think. :)

Sure seems like it. These guys have been consistent in their approach and won what 9 of their last 10 with a series win against the next best team in the BIG. I think they'll be ready.

Arkansas is arguably one of the most dominant #1 teams in college baseball history.

They won every single SEC series they played this season. And the SEC is loaded. 9 teams made the tournament -- most of any conference. Six of those nine are one-seeds in their regionals -- including 3 of the top 4 teams overall.

Arkansas won both the SEC regular season and swept through the conference tournament by winning all four games they played. They could have slipped up in their conference tournament, and they still would have been #1 overall. But Arkansas had never won an SEC Tournament, so DVH and his team played to win it.

This is how they started their season: three straight wins against Texas, Texas Tech, and TCU -- all one-seeds hosting their regionals.

Their RPI is #1, ELO is #1, and SOS is #1. The Hogs went 27-7 against Quad 1 opponents -- the next closest was Vanderbilt at 19-12.

Their "gift" is having Nebraska as a two-seed in their regional. If the Big Ten had played OOC games, Nebraska may very well have been a one-seed.

I have not seen Northeastern play, but looking at the schedule they had.. they played a good portion of their schedule (outside of the conf tourney) against 3 teams.. Delaware, Hofstra and Townson.. they had other single game teams, but those 3 made a good portion of their schedule.

I like our chances in this game!

24 of their games were against 3 teams
They should be a 4-seed, at the most!! 3 teams made up 14 of their games? What a bunch of crap!

Also, I want to say, why didn't our 10 wins out of 11 to end the season mean anything? MD was hailed for their win streak at the end. Pick and choose, right?
Again, a bunch of crap!!!

I pulled this from the article I posted above this post:

  1. Northeastern: Colonial Athletic Association, 36-10
To note:

Of their 36 wins, 24 of them were with 3 non conf teams!!

What a joke!!

I know you don't think too highly of Northeastern, C-Bob. But I think they may be better than many realize. I think they are closer to a two-seed than a four-seed.

A major reason why so many of their wins were against a handful of teams is because they had 15 games cancelled or postponed this season.

Northeastern has an absolute stud starting pitcher, Cam Schlitter (6'6", 200lbs). He was a second-year freshman (started 2 games in 2020 before the season got cancelled). In his short career, he's 9-0 with 16 earned runs allowed over 87 innings pitched. 1.66 career ERA. Against one-seed Old Dominion, Schlitter allowed 1 ER on 5 hits in 6 innings. ODU was #8 nationally in team batting average and #3 nationally in runs scored this season.

It will be interesting to see if Northeastern goes with Schlitter to start against Nebraska Friday evening.
