The ruling is horrible. And yet not unexpected.

Sorsby’s lawyer did a great job … detailing the “undue” harm the banishment would impose as well as pairing the addiction as a mental health thing.

Having said that this was a local judge with very limited explanation for his ruling. I hope the NCAA appeals and gets this reversed.

The NCAA became a complete non-factor when the Supreme Court failed to grant them an anti-trust exemption. Now college sports are run by lawyers, judges, and the uber rich. The cat has been loosed with the pigeons.

I do think the whole gambling thing is ironic …. Don’t let athletes, coaches, administrators bet on games (they shouldn’t) but willingly take advertising dollars from gaming institutions. God help us if there are any suggested impropriety on outcomes occur.

How does gambling on your team make you "feel a part of it and fit in"? Not arguing or judging but only trying to get a better understanding of human nature. Personally, I don't gamble because I like my money. And from what I have experienced as a kid going to Ak-Sar-Ben (the worst name of any establishment anywhere in the history of the world) if I ever won I would just keep going until I lost it all anyway so what was the purpose.

Gambling has become a primary core purpose of sports in this country. And like most easy money schemes it will continue to affect quality, cause controversy, and give false outcomes. What was once considered the lowest sleaziest part of sport (Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe, several college basketball scandals like Boston College in 1980) is now considered normal. Rose and Shoeless Joe were just ahead of their times (although the latter pretty much got screwed by Keenesaw Mountain Landis, the commissioner of baseball). The games are being played for gambling purposes more and more every year. To say they aren't is like saying we watch horse racing because we are fans of the horse. No. Horse racing is popular because a billion dollars changes hands during the big races.

Sorry but I disagree that there has to be separation between the two. It’s no different than not having employees not gamble in their own vasinos in Vegas. Or for that manner……any casinos owned by that company. Gambling and universities can and have co-existed since at least fall of 1980 when I lost my first $110 on Florida State upsetting us in Lincoln.

But you have to clearly separate the entities that have a possibility of directing the outcome and that is players and coaches.

For the record…..I don’t give a rats ass if he ended up playing in a game or not. He was suited up and could have played.

I think it's overall stance against the TT athletic department, but from a football standpoint, would you want your football team involved in any game that Sorsby is in? Every single thing that happens in that game will be questioned.
