Nash Hutmacher: Will Make His Decision in July

On Sharp & Benning this morning, they mentioned that Hutmacher had an enjoyable visit to Oregon this weekend. Are they a real threat here? Any reason for concern? I know Cristobal is recruiting at a very high level there.

If you were a 17-year-old guy, and Nike U is begging you to come out on an all-expenses-paid trip, would you go? When you returned from that trip, what would you say if you had fun but have no plans to go there for college?

Sports Illustrated had an article a few weeks ago about college S&C programs. I only skimmed through it, but it seemed like the article spent a good portion extolling the prowess of the Oregon head of S&C. So that could be a real draw for Hutmacher.

The guy fans should be worried about losing out on is Xavier Watts. Michigan and especially Notre Dame are really pushing hard for him. The Irish might be the leader at the moment.

Doesn't the size/weight of the shot change in college? I thought high school used a slightly lighter ball. 16 lbs, vs 12

Yes. There is a difference:
Men
  • HS Freshman/Sophomore: 10 pounds
  • HS Junior/Senior: 12 pounds
  • College/Pro: 16 pounds
Women
  • High School (F/S/J/S): 8 pounds
  • College/Pro: 4 kilograms (~8.8 pounds)

I believe Cam Jurgens PB is 63' 3" with a 12 lb, love having all these state champions on our lines.

Are they using the same weights for High School in every state? Solid throws by Nash but neither of them were close to what won state this year in Nebraska or Iowa. At least 6’ less in the shot and 30’ in the discus

I'll take Hutmacher over Watts, but I do hope we get them both.

Yes, I believe so, NFHS

NFHS would have the answer for sure but I suspect, yes all high schools follow NFHS guidelines.
