Totally agree. It makes the site (at least on mobile) nearly unusable. I’m also getting more and more “crashes” when using both Safari and Chrome.
Truly intrusive ads, with th a repeat rate that is so fast they can’t be closed and won’t allow posts with any attached links to populate. The close box ‘x’ also doesn’t open until the last second and is apparently all but impossible to touch so it does close. These are very sophisticated and intentional in their design.

Not fixed. Happened three times to me already this morning
On my iPhone, the ads that pops up at the top are back. The ones at the bottom are always there.
The ones at the top make it difficult to get to the “hamburger” for the site’s subpages.
And now as I’m typing, an ACTIVIA ad pops up directly in the area I’m typing. SUPER ANNOYING. Screen shots below.

and notice when you hit the tiny X on the ad, there's a several second delay until it actually closes.
Can some one explain what this is? I'm sure it's legit, but I've never seen this before a few days ago. I'd like to know what I am enabling before hitting the link. Thanks.

I have a high tolerance for ads BUT am experiencing a real bugger. It covers the whole page (or at least 3/4). It lays over screen like a transparency in which you can read part of what's under it and part of what's on top. It's mostly a Haagen Dass ice cream ad.
There is no "x" to click it away. It says at bottom to scroll to return to content. Not sure whether it means their content or Huskermax. It goes away on a scroll but you lose your place and it's back in under 5 seconds.
Odd thing is it only happens in Football and Baseball forum...never Hot Topics...so far. Been going on for a couple of week now. Was hoping it would ride off into the sunset with a little time.

I use my laptop and didn't have any problems until a couple weeks ago when I had to stop using the ad blocker in order to see the site.
But my main concern is clicking on football in order to see that forum, and instead an ad opens up like I clicked on it instead of football. I then have to close the ad and click football again to go to that forum. This had happened three or four times with different forums. My problem is because it thinks I meant to click on the ad I will now find that crap following me all over the internet because it thinks I was interested. Ads are one thing, but ads opening when you click on a forum heading to go there but instead activate the ad is not something that should be happening.
I hesitate to click on any forum link, doing so only if I really want to go there, instead of just going there to see what's happening. While I still visit daily, my time at the site has been reduced by ads.

I found a couple weeks ago the ads (especially the banner at the bottom) cause the whole site to just slow down. This is especially true on my iPhone. The ads just sit there loading and loading, while they are loading external content in post (mainly X post) just sit blank. Even after the ads load the links will take a good half minute to a minute to load (and sometimes I just leave).
I understand and appreciate the need for revenue to keep this site up and running but these ads are actually making me come here less and spend less time.
My laptop slows down too. As you said X posts sometimes take forever or just don't load, which is a good part of the reason I don't read or post in as many threads as I used to. I used to look at almost every thread in HT now I may look at a couple but don't bother with the rest anymore. Sometimes I'll open a thread now and find there have been 5 or 6 new pages since I was last there.
I also find I have to wait in order to be able to leave the site. I click on my saved bookmark to leave and nothing happens while ads are opening and closing. Ads are needed, but it is a shame what they have done to this site.
I used to think that less traffic on HM was due to apathy, but I'm thinking it's just the frustration with the ads. Are we watching the slow death of HM in real time?
