Most Absurd Husker Moments? (Off-Field)

I remember Tyrone Williams shooting at a passing car (and hitting it) with a gun, one of the players tells assistant coach Kevin Steele who tells Osborne. TO gets the gun from Williams, and a week later calls the cops to his office where Williams is present as he tells the cops what happened, then opens a drawer and pulls the gun out to give to the cops.

When that happened, I was pretty much worried about how much power TO had in Lincoln -- TO could have been jailed (might even should have been) for interference. Williams got two felony charges that were later plead down to misdemeanors and a fine while he was playing for Green Bay.

Biggest nothing burger ever. Read it in 2 days. What a db Keteyian was

Speaking of snow jobs, how about the grounds crew pushing snow off the field during halftime in the 80s. I think vs Kansas

'87. Took an extra 30 minutes beyond the 20 minute halftime to clear the snow.

1986 Kansas State…my first game in Lincoln. Snowflakes were huge.

One of the first home games I remember as a kid. Pretty sure the weather allowed me to have a ticket for that game :)

I thought it was Riley Washington? Damn I’m getting old. Lol

The entire Scott Baldwin saga. Very sad story.

I was a UNL student when Baldwin played FB for the Huskers. He showed some real potential in 1990. 92 carries for 579 yards with 5 TDs.

And then his battles with mental illness got the best of him.

1992: Violent assault on a woman, dismissed by the courts due to insanity. Eight months later, a photo of Scott Baldwin appeared on the front page of the Daily Nebraskan. Naked downtown. As police arrived and shot him. Paralyzing Baldwin from the waist down. I'm pretty sure I still have that rag.

2015: Died at the age of 45, succumbing to his mental and physical battles.

A lot like the story of Lawrence Phillips -- though Baldwin's story is much less known and discussed (and I'd bet many Husker fans under the age of 40 really don't know the story).

I suppose the most absurd part was the photo. I seem to recall the DN taking some heat for that.
I didn't know the story until several years after it occurred. I think it got drug up nationally in the LP / Christian Peter stories becoming national in 1995.

I agree with you regarding his 1990 year. And he played IB, not FB. I thought he was our most effective back that year in the games I saw from Houston (remember we weren't on every game and at best I might have gotten the Sunday papers during the season). Leodis Flowers was leading rusher and Derek Brown was a true Freshman.

From my perspective, he just kind of disappeared and I didn't hear any of the news about him in Houston and no relatives or friends mentioned it.

The next year (1991), Derek Brown took over with a huge year and an incoming Calvin Jones was a strong I-Back (We-Back) and second leading rusher. I see on the roster that Baldwin was listed at FB that year and only played in three games. IIRC, Flowers went early to NFL after 1990.
