Very carefully worded, but it looks to me like he was "encouraged to retire", given that his ;last day is in next to a week. If the plan had been for him to retire at the end of the fiscal year, it would have been made public awhile ago.Official statement:

Moos says a lot in his statement other than why he's leaving early. Cut out gracefully before being fired is my guess.
Moos is seasoned enough in the biz to know full well that if Frost doesn't win this year, he'd be gone followed shortly by Frost..

Unless there are issues in the building we are not privy to... I think this is a mistake (in the now). Baseball just had a great year and Basketball is recruiting its best class...like ever.
I think he was nudged gently to leave. I liked him... about the only thing I did not like was the Oklahoma fiasco. I like that he did not back down to the Big Ten over Covid...

Key point bolded. If this was a "retire or else" situation there had to be more going on than meets the eyes....
Heard someone else speculate on that too. He seemed like a good fit in a number of ways from the limited info I was aware of.
But that would be more than a little odd to return to Nebraska for a lower position, after leaving to say you wanted to be in a different part of the country to spend more time with your family.
MHO is his biggest mistake is extending frost's contract by two years which was completely unnecessary and unjustified
I would not trust his judgement when it comes to frost performance
The abruptness is way too sudden to have been a planned retirement date.
There's something behind this that wasn't with a consensus agreement.
