Well, I'm confused. But, what do I know, I just went to Neb.
 
I'm guessing that "an academic mistake" would likely be some form of cheating. If his grades were good, as he says, that would be the sort of thing that would result in his being kicked out of the university for a calendar year, which (reading between the lines) is what it sounds like has already happened.

Agree. Something like plagiarism in a submitted paper would do it.
