Memorable players, plays, and games in Nebraska football history

The only bowl game I've ever attended was the 2009 Gator Bowl.
On the way to the stadium, we passed an inebriated Clemson fan who proclaimed, "We're going to beat the [excrement] out of Nebrassskah!"
And early on he seemed prophetic. Clemson led 21-10 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd. But, as Colonel Mustard said, "The game cannot be considered an artistic success. But for the second game in a row the team displayed great heart and determination." NU held Clemson scoreless the rest of the game, scored 16 straight points to win it, 26-21. Eric Haag sacked the Clemson QB during a late 4th quarter drive to help preserve the victory.

I was at that game too.... had an really annoying drunk Clemson fan sitting a few rows behind us. Mouthin off all game....well..lol... until we mounted that great come-from-behind-FU-Clemson-fan comeback.
I cringed all through the 1st quarter. Special teams tackling was really bad. Hopefully, we have that all fixed by now.
Few thoughts come to mind when watching this:
- I don't think we truly appreciated how great the receiver room was in the early 2010's. Bell, Westerkamp, Enunwa, Turner, etc. Most of these plays include them, despite us also having two great backs (Rex and Ameer) during this same stretch.
- The middle of those Pelini-years were really good! So much talent on both sides of the ball. Makes me appreciate how good they were, but also get frustrated again knowing those groups found ways to lay an egg in important games almost every season. Such high ceilings with those teams, but would get gashed defensively or turn the ball over like crazy when it mattered most.
- Young Taylor Martinez as a runner was just built different. He had 737 yards rushing in his first five games on just 68 attempts (10.8 ypc). His rushes in that K-State game are still a work of art. Shame he struggled with injury as much as he did and that he was so turnover prone.
- I think since these groups left, we've had guys come in who are just as talented and played just as well, but it has been one or two players rather than the group as a whole. Think it's pretty clear there is a talent disparity from where we were to where we are. Maybe it isn't all raw-talent we are missing, but definitely the performance of that talent on the field.
I had a top 3 come to mind of moments that stick in my memory as a Husker fan. These three moments I can still vividly remember the excitement of that moment and exactly where I was and who I was watching it with when it happened:
Honorable mention: 2001 "Black 41 Flash Reverse"- This would probably be higher on my list if it wasn't for the fact I didn't actually get to watch the play/game live. I had a birthday party to attend, my dad recorded the game on VHS and had the play queued up to the play when I returned home. I probably broke that VHS tape with how many times I rewatched that play over the years that followed.
#3: 2008 Henery's 57-yard field goal and Suh's Pick-Six- Thinking there was absolutely no way we were going to make a field goal of that distance and then seeing it clear the crossbar. Then knowing we still had plenty of time to still give the game away before Suh started sprinting the other way with it. Icing on the cake that it was against Colorado. It had all the makings of the bad feelings I associate with recent Nebraska heartbreaks, but has the ultimate high of actually coming away with the win.
#2: 2013 Hail Westerkamp!- There is a case for this being #1. Again, a lot like the last game mentioned, it had all the makings of heartbreak until it gloriously didn't. The second the ball hit Westerkamp's hands I leapt from my chair screaming and running around the house. My dad and I ended up being late for a pageant my sister was in that night because we couldn't miss the end. 100% worth it! Might be the most excited I've ever been when watching Nebraska play.
#1: 1997 Flea Flicker- I was aware of other Nebraska moments prior to the 1997 season, but I was old enough to really begin my fandom in this season. I attended my first game at the beginning of this season. I was old enough to have an understanding of the gravity of the moment as we trailed Mizzou in the closing seconds. When the official came running in signaling TD after Davison came swooping in, my dad and I lost our minds. My sister, who was a toddler, looked at us afraid until she realized it was excited screaming and she joined in on it as well. This is another moment I wore out replaying over and over again on VHS in the years that followed. Due to the gravity of the play and how formative of a moment as it was in my fandom, it earns the top spot.

T-Mart was T-Rrific until he was T-Ragically injured and was never the same.
That 2010 Okie State game was T-Marvelous.
And the subsequent "touchdown" pass bounced off the ground.
