Both players were the best players the years that they were snubbed from winning the trophy…plain and simple.

Here is one for us old guys--on the second play of the game in the Orange Bowl following the 1963 season, Husker QB Dennis Claridge went 68 yards for a TD, and with the PAT and two field goals from Marquette transfer Dave Thiesen, Nebraska held on to beat Auburn 13-7 for its first major bowl game victory.
