When the administration (Athletic Director) handles it, it is a standard set for all sports, all coaches, and all players. No one can say "well this coach handled this player differently and got away with it because that sport makes more money".

If the AD does handle things differently, only one person deserves to be fired, the AD.

If you want to do that and do it fairly, then it should boil down to this if you want to act before it is a adjudicated

What should be the penalty for scratching someone?

Those are the facts in the record. Higher charges were filed because enhancers were added and police are going to error on the side of caution and make an arrest to separate the parties. It doesn't seem fair to punish based on the charging offense only. Either wait until it is adjudicated or base it on the fact that he is being accused of scratching.

It could be several months before a case is adjudicated. What then? If the player is suspended until the case is resolved, he might possibly lose a year of eligibility. If he's found innocent, he's been punished for nothing.

In the court of public opinion, there is no "innocent until proven guilty." Let a player accused of assaulting a pregnant woman play before trial and all will hell break loose.

If they were to push it on the higher charge or if it meant losing his NIL and off the team, then you may get an uncooperative witness. I just don't see why a woman would cooperate in this situation. He is the father of her kids and leaving him without income or an education is just as much punishment on her kids and herself as it is on him. Even, if she dumped him, she's better to not cooperate in most cases.

I'm not trying to make an argument or anything, but pointing out the reality as I see it. The charge makes it seem much worse than it is and it seems to have got a bit sensationalized. It's hard to advocate going scorched Earth when you look at the details that are in the report.

I think you have a valuable point on the girls perspective. Getting him thrown off the team AND more important the money train would totally affect her. I mean there is no excuse for harming a woman let alone the mother of your child. I am sure she has been notified of the impact this will have on her family. I hope they mend the fences and they learn valuable lessons from this

Absolutely agree but it should be in the hands of administration.

Im sure MR is considering if Jamaal Rule will be able to handle the running back position before he decides what to do in this case.

This environment is not the same as the Osborne era. It is more of a business and if Nelson is Rhule's best RB that means a better chance at winning which means better TV revenue which means more funding for less popular sports in the athletic dept. If they cost the whole thing out and the net loss is too great Matt will hold a press conference and announce that the university cares about Nelson's future after football and will keep him on board under the condition that he participate in an anger management program and agrees to counciling. He will make the case that Nelson is part of the husker family and to make him a better man he will stay with the team. It will all be self-righteous nonsense that keeps revenue coming in as well as keeping Rhule's resume' intact.

I'm not so sure that isn't wrapped up soon. I don't think he has a record and if it weren't for the enhancement for her being pregnant, this would have been a low level offense.

It looks like the type of case that gets reduced and/or a plea and probation. He's been thoroughly embarrassed, a probation violation could be severe, he would have stipulations for behavior and counseling, and it serves as motivation to do better.

If you don't see it cleared soon, it probably means there is more to it or in his background or that NU wants to drop him with these terms.
