Mekhi Nelson Arrested For Battery In FL

I don't remember what show I was watching (many years ago), they were discussing domestic violence. One retired police officer said the most under reported domestic crime was when a woman attacked a man. At that time, no man wanted to have an official record that a woman beat him up. It didn't matter what type of weapon she was using.

Not sure what the difference is between battery and assault. But he is charged with aggravated assault right ?I also concur with whomever said the charges are independent of the parties involved if it’s domestic battery. It’s the state that presses charges

I look at it like this: if you're in someone's personal space, like standing toe to toe, you're assaulting that person. If you then head-butt them, you've committed battery.

CBSSports says he was arrested for aggravated battery. Battery because there was physical conflict and aggravated because she was pregnant.

I agree with you 100% smoker. From the videos I mentioned earlier I would say they can be the most vile and aggressive people on the planet. Of course these are the worst of the worst. Most humans are nice people but the select few deserve everything they get

aggravated battery requires serious bodily harm, unless it involves a pregnant woman. The cases is begging for a reduced plea to simple battery and what would that mean as punishment from NU?

If they were to push it on the higher charge or if it meant losing his NIL and off the team, then you may get an uncooperative witness. I know people say they can prosecute without that, but how do you get a conviction for a scratch? You are going to have to show intent and non-participation from one party and you are going to need direct testimony for that.

I just don't see why a woman would cooperate in this situation. He is the father of her kids and leaving him without income or an education is just as much punishment on her kids and herself as it is on him. Even, if she dumped him, she's better to not cooperate in most cases.

I'm not trying to make an argument or anything, but pointing out the reality as I see it. The charge makes it seem much worse than it is and it seems to have got a bit sensationalized. It's hard to advocate going scorched Earth when you look at the details that are in the report.

Very well written. I am in the opinion that he did something wrong. I also think she did. But a felony for scratches is wreaking of over charging and pleading to something that is still overzealous.

This is ultimately the pertinent question for this venue. I would hope and assume since this happened outside Nebraska any rumors that cops had it in for a football player or that, if he's able to plea down, he got off scot-free because he plays football would be suitably squashed.

I would also propose that very few of us claim that women can’t be violent and physical and guilty of assault/battery.

There are quite a few of us that there are in the camp of “regardless of the circumstances there are very few instances where physical harm towards a woman from a man is warranted”. It might be an old school baby-boomer concept but many of us on this board fit in that category.

That’s the best case scenario for Rhule. It should be a decision above the coach and handled by the administration. The rules should be in black & white and spelled out for all offenses including drugs, cheating etc.
In my school district several years ago I was attacked ( verbally) for suggesting that administration should handle EVERYTHING it’s not a team or coaches decision. Make it clear to cocahes, players, the community and everyone else the decision is an administrative one period.
