Swept Indiana - how many times could Nebraska ever say that? Recently, even in football.
Hopefully, this game will be a microcosm of the entire season. NU puts itself in great shape . . . then sputters badly and takes huge step back, but then hits the gas pedal and finally gets over the hump.
This whole season has seemed like that . . . at least to the point in the second half where they scraped themselves off the floor and rebuilt their lead.
Hopefully, they will do the same the rest of the season. There is not a game on their regular season they can't win. It may seem a little much to expect them to finish on a 7-0 run but seriously, what game on their schedule is it okay for them to lose? But a 3-1 finish from here out and I think they are a slam dunk to make the tourney. But now it is about post season positioning.
I would love (or is it hate) to imagine the game threads throughout Huskerland as the lead went down to 3. Yikes. There must have been some folks on the ledge ready to dive off the building.
But we Husker fans just can't stand to be satisfied and just enjoy the ride. We keep putting big red circles around our goals and that goal becomes an enormous barrier to be overcome. WIn 6 games, football team. Win a road game, men's BBall team. Win a Big Ten road game. All of these albatrosses keep coming up and we can see our teams staggering to overcome them. The moments just seem to get too big.
Tonight, it almost happened again. The team blinked a bit . . . but I give them credit . . . the moment wasn't too big for them.
But now, attention moves to the other big circle left out there . . . win a Tournament game, NU BBall team. Win a game. Win a game. Win a game. Or else the entire season is for nothing.
We just can't help ourselves.
We should enjoy the ride. I personally would like to see them win a game or two in the BTN tourney. I personally would like to see them win two games in the big dance and get to the Sweet 16. But season is NOT a waste if they don't accomplish them.
Enjoy the ride. This is fun.
