Isaiah Roby scored a career-high 19 points and all five Husker starters reached double figures as Nebraska won its third straight road game with a 91-85 victory over Minnesota Tuesday night at Williams Arena.
Roby hit 8-of-10 shots from the field and narrowly missed a double-double by grabbing eight rebounds. James Palmer Jr. battled foul trouble to add 19 points, and he filled up the stat sheet by grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out a career-high nine assists. Anton Gill and Isaac Copeland Jr. each scored 12 points, while Glynn Watson Jr. chipped in 10 points.
While the starters combined for 72 points, a total of eight Huskers scored at least six points. Nebraska shot 50.8 percent from the field and was 11-of-23 from the 3-point line, tying their conference high with 11 threes. Seven different Huskers hit a three and Nebraska was also 18-of-22 from the free-throw line. The Huskers' 91 points were their most in a conference road game since 1999.
The win was Nebraska’s first victory at Williams Arena since a 77-60 victory over the Golden Gophers on Dec. 29, 2003. The Huskers improved to 18-8 with their sixth win in seven games, and NU remained in fourth place in the Big Ten standings with a 9-4 mark in conference action.

(LOTS more information on the Game Page)

Nebraska (17-8, 8-4 Big Ten) has been off since completing a stretch of four games in eight days with a 74-63 win at Wisconsin on Jan. 29. In that game, the Huskers overcame an 11-point deficit in the final 10 minutes by outscoring the Badgers, 30-8, en route to picking up their first win in Madison since 1990.

James Palmer Jr. and Isaac Copeland Jr. combined for 45 points, 13 rebounds and four steals. Palmer had 21 of his game-high 28 points in the second half and matched his career high with eight rebounds, while Copeland tallied 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, five boards and two steals. Glynn Watson Jr. added 15 points and five assists, as the trio outscored Wisconsin, 40-31, in the second half.

The win kept the Huskers in contention for a top-four spot in the Big Ten heading into the final three weeks of the season. With an 8-4 mark, NU is tied with Michigan for fourth place with six games to go. Nebraska's conference record is its best after 12 games since 1999.

SCOUTING MINNESOTA
Under Richard Pitino, the Gophers are 14-11 on the season and looking to snap a five-game losing streak. The Gophers are a different team than the one that came to Lincoln in December, as Amir Coffey (14.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg) has played twice in the last nine games because of a shoulder injury while Reggie Lynch (10.1 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 4.1 bpg) was suspended on Jan. 5 and has missed the last nine games. Prior to that, Minnesota was 13-3 and 2-1 in the Big Ten, but has won just once since then.

Junior forward Jordan Murphy is putting together an All-America caliber season, as he is among the Big Ten leaders in both scoring (17.5 ppg) and rebounding (11.7 rpg), while All Big Ten guard Nate Mason is averaging 15.7 points and 4.3 assists per game and has hit a team-high 58 3-pointers. Against Michigan, Mason had 22 points, while freshman Isaiah Washington had 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting and six rebounds.

Could turn out to be a tough game. Heard Minnesota is a 1.5 pt favorite in the opening line.

Turns out they are celebrating the 90th anniversary @ The Barn.

I think that the analytics don't look at trends...so Minnesota's early season success and Nebraska's slow start come into play in the predictions:

Date Opponent Loc Win Odds
2/6 Minnesota Away 30.9%
2/18 Illinois Away 38.7%
2/13 Maryland Home 49.7%
2/25 Penn State Home 53.6%
2/20 Indiana Home 64.2%
2/10 Rutgers Home 79.7%

I would venture to say that tonight is the biggest game we have played in a few years... Will go a long long way towards making the tourney if we win. 4 conference Road Wins is a big notch in the NCAA belt.

My real worry is that they come out rusty and sluggish in the game. Eight days is a long time off between games.

From what I have been reading, we Need to Win at least One of our Two remaining Road Games, tonight's game @ Minnesota, or Sun, 2/18 @ Illinois. (Both would be Better! )

Interesting, the Line seems to have increased to 3 in favor of Minnesota, from opening at 1.5.

From the latest I've heard, Amir Coffey did not practice yesterday and is doubtful (we should find out a couple of hours before game time). Dupree McBrayer has a bad leg and isn't even practicing.

DON'T WORRY 'BOUT A THING, EVERY LITTLE THING GONNA BE OKEKE!

Playing in Minnesota against the Gophers, you never know. Maybe the whole city is experiencing a Superbowl Hangover? Nebraska could win. Maybe it's not likely, but it could happen.

Sounds like the break happened just right: Watson had the flu. Hope they relax and go win.

Here's the 'Skinny' from another site:

"Player to watch: Nate Mason
The Gophers start and end with Mason. The Senior PG is their primary 3pt threat, is 2nd on the team in scoring average, and first on the team in assists.

The Skinny
With the loss of noted creep Reggie Lynch, the at-one-time ranked Minnesota Gophers have lost 8 of their last 9. In addition to losing Lynch, talented starter forward Amir Coffey 7 of the last 9 games with a shoulder injury and Dupree McBrayer isn't practicing because of a bad leg. Compounding the problem has been Minnesota's lack of talent on the bench. The one bright spot has been Isaiah Washington who grabbed the latest B1G freshman of the week award behind some big double digit scoring efforts vs Iowa and Michigan. Nebraska doesn't fare all that well against surprise players but we should have enough game tape on Washington's lack of a 3pt shot and mid-range tendencies to slow him down.

Offensively for the Gophers it will be Murphy, Mason, and Washington. Expect the Huskers to double Murphy at times and try to slow down the others with multiple defenders. Should Minnesota get hot, the Huskers can throw a zone at them much like Michigan did in their last game. Given how much small ball the Gophers have been running, it will be tough for Minnesota to punish Nebraska with offensive rebounds. This really seems like a game where a fresh-legged Nebraska team can clamp down and impose their will against the limited roster of Minny.

Offensively who will be along for the ride with James Palmer and Issac Copeland? A lot has been said about the struggles of Glynn Watson's shot but Evan Taylor and Anton Gill have combined for 10 total points in their last 3 road games. Did these guys spend the last week working on their shots? One thing to potentially look for is some Jordy offense, especially if Minnesota tries to counter with human folding chair Bakary Konate. The big guy looked at ease vs Konate back in Lincoln.

Nebraska has yet to win at the Barn in B1G play. While there should be some excitement for the Barn's 90th birthday, there are still lots of seats available because of how bad this Gopher team has become. Have the Huskers bought into the NCAA tournament hype? As long as they play with any sort of effort they should be in this ballgame with a chance to win. Add that up with the 8 days that Miles has had to prep for this game against a guy he was already out-coaching in Richard Pitino and you have to feel pretty confident about a Nebraska win tonight.

Prediction: Nebraska 72 - Minnesota 62"

Lot's of pressure on NU each night going forward. Cant afford more than 1 regular season loss going forward baring a run in the big 10 tourney.
