After a week off, the Nebraska men's basketball team begins a two-game road trip this Saturday, Feb. 8, as the Huskers travel to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Nebraska won the first meeting in Lincoln, 76-70, on Jan. 7, and look to beat a Hawkeye team that is 11-1 at home, including 10 straight wins.

Nebraska enters Saturday's game leading in the Big Ten in turnover margin with +3.0 per game. The Huskers are second in the Big Ten in forcing turnovers (14.2 per game) and second in taking care of the basketball (11.2 per game). NU is 24th nationally in fewest turnovers per game as of Feb. 6.

SCOUTING IOWA
Iowa comes into Saturday's game with a 16-7 record following Wednesday's loss at Purdue. In that game, Purdue raced out to a 61-36 lead and cruised to a 36-point win. The Boilermakers shot 63 percent and put five players in double figures. For Iowa,

Luka Garza had 26 points on 10-17 shooting, but no other Iowa player had more than nine points. The Hawkeyes shot 42 percent, including 6-of-25 from 3-point range.

Iowa is an explosive offensive team, as the Hawkeyes lead the Big Ten in scoring offense at 78.2 points per game. The Hawkeyes are among the conference leaders in assists (17.7, second), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5-to-1, first) and 3-point shooting (.349, second).

Tempting to make the hour drive; but, maybe will be some slick roads tonight and settling in by the fireplace sounds more appealing at the moment. Now, if we were battling for some serious positioning or an NCAA berth, it would be more worth the trip.

The 'Skinny' (from another site:Timeout:)

The Skinny:
After being embarrassed by Penn State in the 2nd half last Saturday, Nebraska spent its off week intensely practicing and being punished when not practicing correctly. Not exactly sure what that all entails but don't be surprised if a Husker starts doing pushups on the court should they miss a FT tonight. Hoiberg made note that he was going to play the guys who wanted to be out there. Will we see any rotation changes today? Speaking of embarrassed, Iowa got absolutely owned at Purdue as the Boilermakers put up a 100 burger on Iowa this Wednesday. Both teams are going to be chomping at the bit tonight in what will probably be a chippy game.

Speaking of chippy, Nebraska had a 26-5 FT take advantage last time in Lincoln. That sort of spread will absolutely not happen tonight on Iowa's home court. Also, the Hawkeyes shoot considerably better at home from 3. With Nebraska most likely picking and choosing who they guard from 3 as they pack the paint, look for the Hawkeyes to easy best their 12.1% 3pt shooting in Lincoln.

Expect the Hawkeyes to pour fire tonight and their margin of victory to depend on how much resistance Nebraska can put up. They reportedly responded well to the adversity of practice. How will that translate vs a Saturday night Iowa crowd?

Prediction: Iowa 88 - Nebraska 70

Plus:
"Last week it was reported that 'Fred Hoiberg looked the maddest he'd ever been on the Husker sidelines.' Here are the various signs of anger you can expect from noted rage machine Fred Hoiberg and how to spot them."

Iowa didn't have their second best pure 3 point shooter available in Lincoln (Frederick) and their best was already declared out for the season (Bohanon). With Frederick available, I still say pack it in and stop the big guys.

I predict an ugly game and we come out very much on the wrong side of it.
