Lincoln, Neb. --- Glynn Watson Jr. recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists, as No. 25/22 Nebraska improved to 10-2 on the season with an 86-62 win over Cal State Fullerton Saturday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Watson guided a Husker attack that went over 80 points for the seventh time this season, while setting up a pair of 20-point scorers for the Big Red. Watson’s points-assists double-double was the first by a Husker since 2011, and helped NU it its 18th straight home win, the longest home win streak in over 50 years.

James Palmer Jr. finished with a game-high 23 points, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, while Isaiah Roby chipped in a career-high 20 points and a team-high eight boards. For Palmer, it marked his third straight 20-point effort.

As a team, the Huskers dished out 18 points and committed a season-low seven turnovers, while forcing 16 Cal State Fullerton miscues that led to 20 Husker points.

Nebraska put four players in double figures, as senior Isaac Copeland Jr. added 12 points to complete the quartet, while Nana Akenten and Thomas Allen also added nine each as Nebraska continued its best start since the 1994-95 season.

Leading 36-25 at the break, the Huskers opened the second half with a 9-2 spurt, including 3-pointers from Palmer and Copeland before Roby’s conventional 3-point play stretch the lead to 45-27 with 17:25 left.

The Huskers eventually stretched the lead to 60-39 only to make Cal State Fullerton make one last charge, scoring nine straight points to cut a 21-point deficit to 12 with 8:53 left after a pair of Kyle Allman Jr. free throws.

That would be as close as the visitors would get, as Roby scored six of his 18 second-half points in an 11-2 Husker run that pushed the lead back to 21, and NU would not be threatened the rest of the way.

The No. 25/22 Nebraska men’s basketball team returns home after two weeks, as the Huskers host Cal State Fullerton. The Titans, who returned four starters from a 20-win team which made the NCAA Tournament, have gotten off to a slow start with a 3-8 mark, but have shown the ability to hang with the best teams they have faced, highlighted by a double overtime loss at Arizona State. Kyle Allman Jr. is a returning first-team All-Big West selection who has dropped a pair of 30-point games this season, including a 35-point effort against the Sun Devils.

This is a game we lost in many past seasons. A team with talent but that isn't playing well.

I would like to see the Huskers take control early and never let up.

The Minnesota game still lingers as a complete failure and brings back horrible memories. We had that team beat and let them claw back and win the game. Basketball seasons are long and these things happen but for a team like Nebraska, it doesn't make one reach for the panic button but you certainly look at it.

I just want to see Nebraska dominate at a point in the season where games are sporadic and the fans aren't as numerous or rowdy.

On the other hand, the Texas Tech loss doesn't look as bad as it once did, despite getting thumped pretty good. They went toe to toe at Duke for most of the game.

Yeah, I’m not into beauty points here. Finals are over, kids are going home for Christmas after the game...just never have the game in doubt and win, no matter how sloppy.
 
If we don't win this game by 15 or more, I think it just means we were bored and looking forward to the holiday. The baseball reference was awesomely funny. 88 - 59 Huskers, or there so.

Players to watch: Khalil Ahmad and Kyle Allman
The two leading scorers are fairly inefficient with eFG under 50%. Allman (the skinny one with the hair) is the better shooter but has really struggled this year though he does get to the FT line often. Ahmad (the beefier one) leads the team in steals and is an excellent FT shooter. The duo combined for 66 points in a double OT game vs Arizona St. on the road.

The Skinny: Like any holiday type game vs a lesser opponent there is always the worry of a let down. CSF isn't a particularly good team but they aren't as bad as their 3-8 record might indicate as they've played the 11th hardest KenPom schedule thus far. Nebraska with its rim protection and ability to guard without fouling is set up to stop a team like the Titans so even in a struggle the Huskers should win pretty handily. Defensively is where CSF shines and they'll sit back and bait you into long range 2s. Defensively they crash the boards and they rarely chase offensive boards, preferring to get back on defense. They foul quite a bit so this is another game where you could see James Palmer with double digit FT attempts.

Otherwise the biggest lingering question is how long will it take for backup guard Amir Harris to recover from mono and how much will Thorir play in his absence. Miles almost always describes him as a crafty gifted scorer with a high basketball IQ which means his inability to play defense at a high enough level is what keeps him out of the rotation. He'll certainly play over the next two games so it will be something to focus on when he's in the game.

This is the type of team that can turn a game into a boondoggle but ultimately Nebraska is talented enough to win even when not playing at their best.

I agree. I posted before the team didn’t seem to know how to close the Minnesota game. There has been significant improvements since that game. Hopefully they start on fire and follow through to the end of the game.
