Matt Rhule sounds alarm on NFL returnees, $45 million rosters and college football’s payroll problem

I watch the Huskers. I could care less about anyone else. No more are the days from 11am to 1am Sunday morning with nothing but CFB. Ratings are only up because of gambling, people watching because of bets. So many are disgusted with this nonsense. And to think, they all did it for ‘free’ only 5 short years ago. Ahh shoot, let’s just pay them 3-6 million per. Just lol. THEY ALL DID IT FOR FREE, and the opportunity to play at the next level. Didn’t have to be this way.
 
I'm getting near to the point that I don't care if it collapses under its own weight. Which it may soon.

Kids complain about $20 burritos... Well, this is another contributing factor to inflation. Pro athletes have been overpaid for years, and now we're at a point where college kids are too. It's unsustainable.

At least NFL owners generally understand the need for competitive balance across the league while still looking out for their own interests. CFB is every team (and to a lesser extent league) for themselves. Probably easier with only 32 teams, but still. CFB is like watching petulant children who can’t see the big picture.
 
College football must find a legal way to install some sort of a NIL (salary cap) or only a small handful of schools will be able to compete at the top levels. We have billionaires like Cuban that are writing million dollar checks so their alma mater can dominate college football. Soon (perhaps now) only those programs that have endless cash will be able to compete at the top level. Now they want to allow more mature NFL trained players to return to college football? Total insanity imo.... We sadly have judges who are absolutely clueless about the game but are making monumental decisions about the future of the game? Lunacy!

IMO it’s only a matter of time when pay for play is going to end badly for college sports unless some reasonable rules are established.

I see the unfairness issue is that a few extremely wealthy people can decide what schools will usually be play-off teams because of their infusion of money. Yes , large powerful schools were always more competitive but simply being able to BUY the best players is completely different.

I wonder how long the NFL would remain popular if year after year after year the same few teams were a lock for the playoffs? Salary caps insure all NFL teams can at least be on equal footing with talent. I ask if the richest college teams are heading for 100 million dollar rosters? I believe they are unless some real changes are made with the current play for pay system. No school can do that unless they have a few extremely wealthy people willing to fund them.

While everyone can spend their excess funds (after all of their bills are paid on necessities) anyway they want, for the extremely wealthy people, is there anywhere more important to put their money than making a high school graduate an instant millionaire to play a game?
