Material being thrown on field by fans

At the BYU-Utah game a Cheer coach was knocked out by a bottle thrown by a fan (?Utah).

IMHO the Conferences leadership has to make immediate action across college football to stop this insanity.

My recommendation:
First time at any game:
-30 yard penalty an clearing of the stands where this occurred (See CU/NU game).
-further throwing of material on the field at same game: Forfeit the game.

I strongly feel that only such severe penalties will stop this behavior.

The selling of alcohol at game venues increases the likelihood of extreme fan behavior thus the conferences need to be ready to deal with the behavior in advance by making clear what endangering on field participants will result in.

OOps, forgot to post the link to BYU story:

Article sez "allegedly hit" your post says "knocked out". Confused.

Also, not going to be any change because:
1) the universities make too much money banning outside bottled water then selling bottled water in the stadium;

2) would affect tv broadcasts which broadcasters will not allow. Who do you think is in charge of college football? Not the colleges I can assure you;

3) even a dummy like me can find the false flag op here - dress up as hated rival, throw a couple of bottles on the field, win the game.

Deal with the idiots who do it. Don't make rules that affect thousands more innocent people as well as the athletes. Our society has gotten in the habit of just making a sweeping rule to solve a problem rather than concentrating on the real cause. It is the lazy way to solve problems.

Okay tell me, how would you "deal with the idiots who do it" so that you get this to stop.

I am serious, looking for good answers to a significant problem.

Throwing stuff is pretty stupid, because anyone around you can figure out you threw it, and you'll be booted.

However, I think there are other situations that need to be dealt with in order NOT to create the kind of hatred we see with some of these games. Officials need to do a better job. The amount of money, the amount of passion, the incredible amount of frustration we are seeing from some truly horrible officiating is pushing people to a bad place. Let's get that improved.

Additionally, let's bring class back to the field. I'm regularly seeing players deciding to taunt 60, 70 or 80 thousand people with the notion that they will not face any repercussions. That's a really bad idea. I was watching Deion Sanders melting down because some of his players had stuff thrown at them. Apparently, Sanders doesn't see the shocking stupidity of his players continually shouting things at the fans, making that idiotic 'shushing' motion, regularly making inflammatory comments on social media, all in an effort to bring attention to themselves. Well, you ask, you get. Act as a$$, get reactions from a$$e$. I'd like to see benches monitored for taunting, and if they do it, one warning, then you get 15 yards, and eject a player if he gets flagged twice.

If kids weren't taught to have some class, then it's up to the officials to remind them that it's part of the game.

Would you be ok with getting thrown out of the stadium in the first half because of what someone else did, just because you were in the same section? What if a player’s family flew in from out of state?
The punishment should be the same as it would be if you walked up to somebody and did the same thing on the street. Being pissed at a referee’s call shouldn’t absolve someone from severe punishment.
If a student, also getting told to take your credits to another school would be ok with me.

There is enough video surveillance that security could find out who did it. I don't have all of the answers but I know just making a broad rule that affects everyone isn't always the answer. Hire some smart security trained people who have experience in dealing with large crowds to identify bad apples when they step out of line.

Also with the thousands of cameras in the stands find the person and prosecute

I think it constitutes assault. The police should get involved.

How do you know what team the fan is from to penalize and/or forfeit. How long before the opposite team fans dress in their opponents colors to draw the penalty.
