Masterbuilt Electric Smoker

I have the Masterbuilt 40" Electric smoker. It has served me well and I know that there are draw backs to Electric vs wood but there are also some advantages. I find that I can get enough smoke to do what is needed just maybe not the smoke ring that is as pronounced as it could be.

I have purchased the external smoke generate for the Masterbuilt Electric smoker so that Ican cold smoke. Photos of both are attached. They are not to scale. The smoke generator is smaller and fits on the side of the smoker. If you are familiar with the smoker it attaches where the chip additions take place and you take out the chip feed to use this.

The beauty of the smoke generator is the larger reservoir for chips. It says it will generate smoke for 6+ hours on a load of chips. I have also read some reviews where it generate more smoke than the internal chips do with the limited space. The one drawback is the need to add chips fairly often esp at the start.

Does anyone have an experience with this cold smoker attachment. If you do have you used it to generate smoke even when generating heat at the smoker. I think I want to try this to generate smoke and then smoker to provide and control the heat thus, if my reading is correct, get more smoke for a longer time between chip adds. IT is not marketed to do this but I cannot come up with a reason it wouldn't work.

Any thoughts.

Too bad you bought one. I have one sitting out back I'd give away.

It works alright and I might use it for more volume. But a friend of mine's caught fire and almost burned down his house and I think I also received a recall notice about this being a fire hazard.

Smoker or Cold Smoke generator recalled? Which caught fire too? I have had the smoker for a few years with no issues so far. Maybe just lucky....

I got mine delivered yesterday. Put the few things together that needed to be, attached it to my smoker and test ran it for a couple hours. Really put out some smoke.
