Maher vs. Ekeler

Special teams have been a real mixed bag, and they’ve been probably more bad than good if I’m being honest. However, let me tell you Ekeler has NOT been doing a good job at USC. The special teams have been a mixed bag at best.

Today a USC punt returner jumped up in the air to try to catch a punt (something I’ve never seen before) and muffed it. Also, Ekeler’s linebackers have been awful pretty much all season. If the only way to keep him in Lincoln was to have him also coach linebackers, I’m fine with the way things played out.

Not sure it is a fair comparison if that what you are asking. Ekler will have the concepts while Maher would be better with the technical kicking part. Both have their strong suit, but I think Ekler would be preferred. But if like you say he wanted to coach lb's then I agree, Maher can learn the scheme part.

i’m fine with Maher. I like Eck but would never get too invested in him, he’s a job hopper
