Mac Markway Moving To DE

So you want to use “might have been” in your every day reasoning but won’t entertain the possibility of “might be” for this position change? Just give it up and see what happens. You can criticize the decision later.
You said in regards to HH that “he wouldn’t have been here without a position change”. That seems awfully definitive for a player who (a) was loved by HCMR and (b) spent 2024 as the primary backup to QBDR.

I think it is pretty logical and likely that HH would have spent 2025 as a backup QB if he didn’t change positions. My “might have been” statement expressed that opinion.

Let’s be clear on my position regarding Markway’s position change (a) I sincerely hope it does work and (b) that it is unlikely in my opinion to work.

Actually I said likely wouldn’t be here without a position change. So let me get this straight. It was alright for HH to make a position change because he was loved by HCMR and he has been all husker. Well maybe HCMR loves Mack too.

Maybe he does … the HH position switch to TE was not a game changer. He wasn’t extremely efficient and his stats weren’t great. THAT is my point about the possible Markway position switch. I hope HCMR loves Mack too!

But when HH did the switch did you get in the board and denounce is as an automatic failure?

Yes,
Jay Foreman was primarily recruited as a running back out of high school before transitioning to linebacker in college.
Because he was the son of legendary Minnesota Vikings running back Chuck Foreman, high school coaches typically placed him at that position. During his time at Eden Prairie High School, he was a versatile athlete who played running back, quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive back.

Collegiate Recruitment and Position Change
  • Nebraska Recruitment: When Foreman arrived at the University of Nebraska, he was a high school running back who had only played two games on defense in his prep career. Nebraska recruited him with the intention of moving him to linebacker, a switch he welcomed because he "could hit people".

You keep putting words into my mouth … never said automatic failure … ever about MM or HH.

I thought HH had a chance because of his toughness as a runner, because of his game experience, because being a QB theoretically he knew what was needed of a TE. He also entered this year healthy and not coming off two consecutive surgeries. Additionally HCMR extolled HH’s switch highlighting his NFL-like athleticism.

I listed a bunch of position switches at NU over the last 10 years. Which of the 10 would you consider solid successes? Tanner Farmer, after that ….?

Yes, Adam Carriker was a standout high school quarterback and team captain at Kennewick High School, but he was recruited and transitioned to defensive end upon joining the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Despite playing QB, his size and talent led him to excel on the defensive line in college and the NFL
Yeah, we know . . . Carriker has been mentioned already. But he's also been pointed out as a bit of a stretch for "switched positions" because he was never brought to NU to play QB or anything else other than defense. Carriker played QB his first 3 years in HS, but played defensive end his senior year and was recruited to NU as a defensive end.

"AI" also shows other points you left out.

Everything I've seen for Markway says he was a TE in HS and recruited as a TE for college. Who was recruiting him for defense coming out of HS?
Thats my point, with no defensive stats, who knows? I do know one of his DE team mates was highly ranked which ratchets up competition in team.
So since we dont know, we dont know.
Markways greatest attributes are at the LOS, thats indisputable , going from there it becomes more and more of team needs and also team commitment to him regarding his injuries.

LETS GET THIS THREAD BACK ON TOPIC

Markway went to the Nebraska coaching staff this winter and suggested a move to defensive end, from his usual tight end position.

The move isn't totally out of the blue. The younger Markway was a top-250 national prospect — and No. 14 tight end, according to 247 Sports — in the 2023 class out of De Smet Jesuit High School in the St. Louis metro. He was a two-way starter there when healthy, including as a rush end.l
