Mac Markway Moving To DE

Was his tenure in 2025 as a TE more successful than his contributions as a QB in 2023?

His ineffectiveness as a rusher this past season is more reflective of poor play calling, poor O-Line play (especially in short yardage situations) and a general lack of toughness across the board.

I absolutely love HH, the person, the player, the Nebraskan.
Comparing his 23 quarterback stats to 25 tight end is irrelevant because he likely wouldn’t have been here without a position switch. You might want to factor that into your common sense algorithm you are pushing. Guys making position switches have most likely given up on the old position at their present school.

No no and no. The original suggestion was that position changes don’t work. The rebuttal was Cam Jurgens. You can make up apples and oranges or use your fake girlfriend to compare reaches but it’s not a reach. The bottom line is it disproves the original post that position changes don’t work.
Cam Jurgens is way more the exception than the rule.

Holding him up as the baseline or benchmark is faulty logic. He’s not the norm, he’s the exception. And even then the circumstances in his situation were way more favorable than Markway’s.

I didn’t claim position changes don’t work, I am suggesting that this position change deep into the collegiate career of a two-time surgically repaired athlete is unlikely to work. Once again you are choosing not to listen.

I am requesting that if you respond that your vitriol, snarkiness and mean-spirited comments cease. We can agree to disagree.

He might have been here, no one knows for sure. He arguably was our most productive QB in ‘22 and ‘23. He was needed as a backup in ‘24.

The original suggestion was NOT that position changes never work . . . it was that they don't work out well very often. I literally gave examples of where they did work in the same post. I neglected to mention Jurgens, but the point still stands IMHO. Position changes, especially ones later in careers and moving from one side of the ball to the other, tend not to pan out in terms of success. It's even more true when you are switching a dude around after he's had injuries and hasn't been able to see the field much. It's a bit of a hail mary at that point.

Maybe this one works out? The odds say it won't but I'm open to being pleasantly surprised.

Yea, the QB who played DL never worked out. Or that RB who played LB.
Theres many who did quite well.

There isn’t.

People have cited Cam Jurgens, but he never played a down of collegiate football except on the offensive line.

The list of who it worked out well, especially as deep as Markway is into his collegiate career is not very long, especially at NU.

Cody Glenn is cited as one but I thought he was a helluva RB even before his transition to LB.

Who else is there?

How about Carriker, or Foreman?

It used to be more common, specialization has tempered it. Just like you see so many coaches not letting their players play other sports.

Lots of high school kids have played both sides … O-Linemen play D-Line. CBs play WRs. Often kids come to college as an “Athlete” open to playing the other side of the ball.

Kids come to college recruited as a LB but maybe don’t put on enough weight so they become a Safety.

Unclear of Adam Carricker position switch. If you’re talking about a 4-3 D-End switching to a 3-4 D-Linemen in the NFL I’m not sure that hits the definition we are discussing.
No, he was a QB in HS. Also a D lineman. Foreman was a very good RB coming out of HS, Mac won and he was instant LB

Cam's position switch worked out great for him, Nebraska on the other hand had two seasons of bad snaps, then when he finally got over that he went pro early. Was the one season of good snaps worth the two seasons of bad snaps? I don't know. I do like Cam and still root for him but I don't think it was a home run no-brainer for Nebraska
