Not sure what's going on with Luke, could be a lot of factors here, but almost, maybe, just possibly seems like the Nebraska coaches might now be considered to have handled this the right way to let him leave:

McCaffrey was on campus for roughly a week, and according to Satterfield, participated in “3-4” summer workouts, and decided to leave the program because he wanted to come in and be the starting quarterback.

From what I saw of him at NU I simply don't see him as a QB, and he seems awful small to be a RB. Definitely seems like a slot guy to me.

I thought I read Rice might be the spot. I wonder if he wanted a guarantee for the start and once practice started Luke showed some limitations, the other guys on the roster looked better, and the coaches wouldn’t make the promise. Just a guess.
