Louisiana State Regent: Three schools need to drop to FCS

If rule advance where power 4 teams can now longer play these teams, they will lose the life support that the payouts provide them for playing P4 schools.
you'll get 1 p4 and 2 g5, fcs not allowed. bowl season will kick off the season instead of finish it......

bama will have to give up their late season Southern conf game....

One of the good aspects of the portal was how effectively P4/G5 could evaluate and take advantage of this group of athletes rising from FCS schools. A byproduct of eliminating these games is many of the FCS programs won’t survive without the cash infusion from playing games agains P4/G5 schools.

Thats a lot of athletes that will no longer have the opportunity to play football and advance from FCS programs. I don’t pretend to know all the answers, but in my opinion the death of FCS football isn’t a net positive. Just my humble opinion.

also means less ppl getting scholarships at the FCS level. could translate into not going to college. i liken fcs to grass roots dirt track racing. its been shrinking a lot due to costs. those tracks were local entertainment but also fed drivers into upper series like nascar/indycar.

FCS football will survive, but it's going to be downscaled a good bit, and probably a lot of consolidation of conferences to keep expensive travel to a minimum. The chasm between the haves and have nots in FCS is significantly more than even FBS. The Dakota and Montana schools rule FCS. Those are flagship state schools with full resources to dominate the division.

D2 ball is a mess of its own. It's in nowhere land - all of the disadvantages of D3 and D1 wrapped into one. Obscurity combined with having to fund scholarships. I'm not sure why any school is D2 these days.

D3 is a great model and still a ton of good talent but has typically been the league of private schools.
