We’re only in the fourth thinning and we can still win this game.

But I don’t think I’ve seen a worse display of relief pitching in all my years…

Just horribly disappointing… the relievers looked like they were making progress and then this.

We have a four run lead and give up just a ton of runs.

Walks…. Hit batters…. And two balks with a runner on third... BALKS!

Disgusting.

I’m not sure we can let Mannell get out there again…. He’s a transfer and if we paid him NIL….. He’s not earning it.

I hope we recover and they’re pitching hasn’t looked very stellar either but right now. We are literally just giving them the game….. They aren’t even hitting the ball. It’s that bad..

Maybe it’s just one of those “bad nights” I hope so..

Ironically after KSU gave up 6 runs in the top of the 5th, I'm sure their fans are saying the same thing about their pitching. And what's with the warning on Grego for bat flipping? I didn't know that was a thing.

We are now up 12 to 8…

Our hitting has been great.

But the relief pitching on both sides of the field… just really sub par.

Now I’m seeing a lot of names that we don’t use very much…. And I imagine Kansas State is doing the same thing..

Honestly, this game isn’t a do or die for either team. It isn’t a conference game… both coaches may be trying to see if they’ve got a little bit deeper pitching rosters than they thought. Get some kids out there that haven’t pitched much.

But Lord, that stretch for Nebraska…. I don’t think I’ve ever seen two balks in a game that scored runs.

I’m just really disappointed in Mannell…. They brought him in to be the closer and he can’t last a half an inning in middle relief.

I hope he pulls out out of this. I feel for the kid.

But I have to tell you in baseball, there are those nights that you just wanna forget about.

It’s very subjective…. And umpires in college apply VERY subjectively…..

I imagine these are Local Kansas fellows that are the Umpires and they may not appreciate a batflip of any type by a Nebraska boy.

WINNER WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!

14-9

Welp, you can’t say we don’t hit the ball! And put pressure on an opposing team.

Not a stellar pitching effort, or even a stellar defensive effort… passed balls, errors.

And it’s been a long time (if ever) I’ve seen this many wild pitches, passed ball, walks, hit batsmen and even two balks that caused runs to be scored.

It was really wild. And the thing was it was not us alone…… if anything Kansas State was worse if that’s even imaginable.

And what’s really strange is these are two good teams…. Very solid..

We have seven guys hitting over 300… they have eight…..

Just a strange night, but a win is a win!

Our relievers need to go sit in the sauna a while…:)

I went to bed last night, got a good nights sleep, got up this morning and have a different perspective…

It’s baseball…. That simple.

You are going to have those days when your term just looks like an absolute mess.

But here’s the good news….

They found a way to win…

Regardless of everything, on enemy turf, when the pitching was so bad, fielding questionable….base running not great…..they did not let that bother them at all.

They just went back to that time honored tradition of:

“Hit the ball and good things happen!”

And they did!

The kids look like they are plain having FUN and are resilient as hell. Marks of a good team.

And here’s another good side…

I don’t think any of our relief pitchers got enough of a workout last night to be considered “not available” for the weekend so Coach should have the full pitching lineup available for him.

And after last night, a good nights sleep, a couple hot meals and a little guidance from Coach Childress who is universally considered one of the best in the business…. And every one of those kids will be ready to make amends.

On to Indiana! Win the series…..move on…

I felt the same way. We were in Arlington when these two played, and that day KSU looked like a good ballclub and we looked like we weren't sure of ourselves. Allot of swings at bad pitches that day. It looks like we are cleaning that up and it's amounting to allot more hits and runs. It's still early, but I really like the progress this team is showing. Now, like I've said for the past several years, someone in the bullpen needs to step up and be "the shutdown guy". Go Big Red!

You always teach patience, John. Hang in there.
I have been so wrapped up with things to do. Just got back from my my youngest grandson's wedding, which was this last Saturday. I missed my Linda at times, but it turned out ok, though. Things are settling down. I will make the game tomorrow.
