Lateef

I want the best player to be our starter. Not based on prior history, recruiting stars, because his dad played for NU, his uncle did blah blah blah, etc.

Lateef looked like what an 18 yo should look like. Cringe in some parts, smooth in others.

Keithen McCant kind of came out of nowhere. So did Ganz. I don't want Jeff Sims 2.0. I don't want a turnover machine. Value the ball. Get behind perhaps the best o line we have had since Bo. Give me a McCant or Ganz and I can see 7 perhaps 8 wins. Anything else is icing. That's progress. I know that is not gonna satisfy some. Tough

Regardless of how one might feel about Lateef or Kaelin, both absolutely need to be ready to play this year as odds are we may need one of them if AC goes down for a game or a couple series due to injury. I think we are lucky to have both these QBs as backup.

You can add Jerry Gdowski in 1989 to that list. He ran for over 900 yds and 13 TDs while passing for 1,300 yds and 19 TDs with only 2 ints.

Mccant is one of the best qbs we've ever had, but nobody remembers that

no mention Danny Kaelin ......

Virginia >>>> UNLV
experience >>> inexperience.
IMO, the jury is still out on Kaelin. His numbers at Virginia are not impressive, albeit sparse.
Colandrea is a better known quantity. He had a good year last year, which is no guarantee, but at least we know he is capable.

Absolutely I want the best player as well. I just want that best player to be Lateef. I hope he has put on muscle, has worked on making the hard throws over the off season, and proves to be quicker and faster than the others. But like many young players, I hope he didn't spend his summer workouts working on the skills he is best at and staying away from the things that are hardest for him.

Lateef is a good backup option, barring injuries he won't start again at Nebraska. A.C. wouldn't of been brought in if Rhule thought Lateef was a Qb1. He wouldn't risk his confidence by putting him on the bench for a season after starting games the previous. I don't think he beats out Kaelin for 2nd string.

Two things between those two, quick recognition and consistency.
It's good to fall back to a QB who can manage the team if need be.
