"Nebraska senior Abi Knapton captured the first Big Ten Conference diving title in school history on Friday night, when she took first in the platform dive with 343.55 points at the 2021 Big Ten Championships at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

The most accomplished diver in Nebraska history, Knapton added to a Big Ten championship to an impressive list of career accomplishment that continues to grow. A three-time first-team All-American on the platform, Knapton's first Big Ten individual title came just one day after capturing a runner-up finish on the three-meter dive. Her final score of 343.55 marked the second-best platform total in her career, trailing only her 343.85 at the Hawkeye Invitational in 2018.

Knapton's win on the platform on Friday marked her fifth career top-eight finish at the Big Ten Championships, including a fourth-place finish on the platform in 2019. She also finished fifth in the three-meter and sixth in the one-meter dive in 2019.

Knapton's title marked Nebraska's first-ever conference title on platform and NU's first conference diving championship on any event since Julie Grimmer won the three-meter dive at the 1995 Big Eight Championships."

Madison, Wisc.-- The Nebraska swimming and diving team continued to battle conference foes at the 2022 Big Ten Championships on Friday.

The 100 breaststroke was a highlight event for the Huskers as they sent three swimmers to the finals. Freshman Maia Hall and sophomore Ella Stein had back-to-back finishes with 13th and 14th place to qualify for the B-finals. Hall's prelims time of 1:00.98 marks the fourth-fastest time in Nebraska history in the event, while Stein's 1:01.55 is the sixth-fastest. Freshman JoJo Randby completed the trio as she swam to 18th place in the C-finals with a 1:01.50.

"Today was a pivotal day," Nebraska head coach Pablo Morales said. "We needed a good morning of prelims which we had and then we came back at night with some really great excitement. We had some breakthrough swims and that is what we are looking forward to continuing during the final day tomorrow."

Fifth-year senior Autumn Haebig returned to the podium after finishing in sixth place in the 200 freestyle A-finals with a 1:45.74.

Lincoln-native Berkeley Livingston shaved almost three seconds off her previous career-best time in the 400 IM to finish 10th in the prelims and earn a spot in the B-finals. Her prelims time of 4:14.16 is the third-best 400 IM time in school history. She finished the night finishing 15th overall in her finals swim.

Lexi Kucera rounded out the Huskers in the finals with a C-finals appearance in the 100 butterfly. The sophomore improved her time to place 22nd with a 54.09.

Divers competed in the three-meter on Friday, where sophomore Reagan Hinze provided the top finish for the Huskers with a 284.65 to place 18th.

"JoJo Randby highlighted the day for the Huskers, breaking the 27-year-old 100 breaststroke school record with an outstanding 1:00.10 in the prelims. Penny Heyns, who went on to win the gold medal in the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the 1996 Olympic Games held the previous record. Randby's record didn't last long, as she re-broke it during the finals to finish seventh with a 1:00.07.

Maia Hall earned a spot in the B-final and swam a career-best 1:00.76 to get an NCAA B-Standard Cut and move up to fourth in school history. In the C-final, Sydney McCracken represented the Big Red and placed 21st with a 1:02.66.

A day after breaking the 500 freestyle school record, Shannon Stott pitched in another top performance to qualify for the 200 freestyle A-final with the No. 2 time swam in school history, 1:46.46. That gives the senior from St. Albans, Great Britain another NCAA B-Standard Cut. In the final, Stott placed eighth with a 1:46.54."

JoJo Randby opened with a fourth-place finish on Thursday in the 50 breaststroke with a 28.13. On Friday, Randby touched the wall at 1:00.99 in the 100 breaststroke final to earn another fourth-place finish.

Randby teamed up with Gabby Donahue, Giulia Marchi and Caitlin Cairns in the 200 medley relay to place fifth with a time of 1:40.76.

Sarah Barton produced a pair of top-ten finishes in the individual medley events. The junior from Huntersville, N.C., clocked a 4:17.46 in the 400 IM prelim, earning her the top seed for Friday night's final. Barton went on to finish sixth with a 4:18.34. On Thursday, Barton placed eighth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.30.

Caitlin Cairns swam to 24th place in the 100 butterfly with a 54.98 and placed 29th in the 50 butterfly with a 25.00. Donahue clocked a 25.88 in the 50 backstroke to place 22nd.

Cairns, Donahue, Marchi and Randby combined for two top-20 relay finishes on Thursday. They finished 13th in the 400 medley relay in 3:43.64 and 19th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:33.72."

"Five Nebraska swimmers set career bests while three qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials while competing at the Region VIII Summer Sectionals last week at the Mizzou Aquatics Center in Columbia, Mo.

Gena Jorgenson, JoJo Randby and senior Sarah Barton qualified for the Olympic Trials in their respective events, while Maia Hall and Caitlin Cairns added career-best swims for the Huskers in Columbia.

Jorgenson, a sophomore to-be in 2023-24, won four event titles, including a career-best and meet-record 8:44.58 to earn her place in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 800 freestyle. Jorgensen slashed more than 20 seconds off her previous best in the event. She added an Olympic Trials qualifying spot in the 1500 freestyle, posting a meet-record 16:40.17 on her way to victory. Jorgenson also earned first-place finishes in the 400 IM (4:53.40, career-best) and the 400 freestyle (4:15.79, career-best). She placed second and set career bests in the 200 freestyle (2:03.26) and the 200 backstroke (2:15.05).

Randby, a rising junior from Omaha, Neb., won all three of her events, including a career-best and U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying time of 1:10.02 in the 100-meter breaststroke. Randby added career bests and first-place finishes in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:34.72) and the 50 breast (32.16).

Barton, a senior to-be for the Huskers, raced to victory in the 200-meter butterfly in a career-best 2:13.49 to qualify for the U.S. .Olympic Trials. Barton added a win in the 200 IM with a career-best 2:19.83. She also contributed a second-place finish in the 400 IM with a 4:57.94.

Junior Maia Hall competed in four events and recorded a career-best, fourth-place time in the 200 IM (2:21.78). She finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.16), fourth in the 50 breaststroke (32.82) and sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.80).

Senior Caitlin Cairns competed in the 100 fly and placed fifth with a career-best time of 1:02.83. "

Twelve teams will face off in hopes of clinching the conference title, starting with the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. (CT) at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. The following three days of competition begin with prelims at 9 a.m (CT) and finals at 4 p.m. (CT).

Gena Jorgenson has racked up 19 individual victories throughout her season, while setting five career bests and notching six B standards. Jorgenson broke the 1000 freestyle school record in a dual with Illinois on Jan. 27 with a time of 9:41.68.

The sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. tallied three B Cuts in the 500 freestyle, one of which earned her a career-best time at the Hawkeye Invite (4:43.87). Jorgenson’s other B standards came in the 1650 freestyle and the 400 IM.

Gena Jorgenson highlighted the day, finishing the 500 freestyle in a school-record time of 4:41.19 in the B final to place 10th overall. The sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. now holds five school records, including the 1000 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, long-course 800 freestyle and long-course 1500 freestyle. Caterina Bisiacchi notched a 28th-place finish and a career-best in the 500 freestyle prelims with a time of 4:49.52.

Sarah Barton qualified for the C final in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.15. Barton logged a time of 2:00.23 in the final for a 21st-place finish in the event. Maia Hall added a 31st-place finish for the Huskers in the 200 IM prelims (2:01.43), setting a career-best time. Sydney McCracken finished 38th with a time of 2:03.21.

Eight Huskers competed in the 50 freestyle prelims. Nebraska’s top finishers included Anna Vlachou placing 34th with a career-best 23.23 and Caitlin Cairns placing 38th with a career-best 23.38.

In the 400 medley relay, a team of JoJo Randby, Beatrix Tanko, Vlachou and Barton secured seventh with a 3:37.60, the third-fastest time swam in school history."
