I was on Amazon Prime last night a saw a trailer for the "Jack Reacher" series. Unlike Tom Cruise this guy looks like the book's Jack Reacher. This 1st season will have 8 episodes based on the books of Lee Childs. Season 1 will be about book 1: "The Killing Field". All episodes available on 3 Feb 2022. Can't wait.

Also "Jack Ryan" season 3 will be available later in Feb. "Jack Ryan" has also been picked up for a fourth season.

Cruise gave a whole new meaning to Reacher.

"I can't reach the kitchen counter!!"

He's short, see. Ah, for fun.

He also can't reach the door handles.
That's how he got locked in the closet

Re Jack Ryan I thought the second season much better than the first. Re the Ryan movies and as much as it pains me to say this I thought Alex Baldwin was the perfect Jack Ryan. Its a shame the actor could not live up to the character in his real life.
I hope someone redoes all of the Jack Ryan movies that Harrison Ford did with a better Jack Ryan. And I am a Harrison Ford fan but not with him as Jack Ryan.

Back to Reacher. Lee Child, in his forward to "Killing Field", wrote "Usually, a book's hero comes up against people he needs to be afraid of. What if, I asked myself, the hero is the toughest SOB in the valley and others need to be afraid of him?"
Based on the trailer out there the producers are off to a good start. I so hope they get it right.

Call me crazy, but what I saw was kind of stupid, over the top, showy tough guy stuff. Reacher to me is more about quiet confidence. He’s a good sized guy, but it’s his skills and understanding of combat or physicality that make him so formidable. The show makes him more like a WWE character.

The Hunt for Red October is just a better movie all around than the movies Harrison Ford was in. Ford was too old to be playing Jack Ryan at that point.

I actually liked the newer movie with Chris Pine as Jack Ryan. I thought it was pretty entertaining. Its was an original not based on a book. Net Flicks did a movie that was supposed to be based on the book Without Remorse. It is the origin story for Clark. It was terrible and was nothing like the book.

Totally agree. Major disappointment for me; I was looking forward to it.

Finished up "Reacher" a few days ago, and saw a comment that really sums up the show... "It's a 10/10 at being a 7/10".

I haven't read any of the books, but it sounds like they cast this guy properly. The quality of the writing varied almost from scene to scene. Sometimes it felt like a gritty action show that would be perfect for a streaming service; other times it felt like a hacky broadcast network show that would fill in the 10pm CST timeslot, right before the news; and still other times, it seemed like porn for women. The female lead was almost a Mary Sue, because she was tough and showed no fear, but that changed in later episodes and while she was scrappy, the writers were smart enough to remember she was 98 pounds soaking wet. Generic bad guy, straight from the 1980s TV shows by Glen A Larson, or from Roadhouse.

There wasn't enough comedy in there to make it as fun as a Marvel movie, but too much for it to go into really dark action places. There were some clunky, predictable and unneeded flashbacks, and I bet those will be gone in Season 2. And for the most part, Reacher seem like the Mary Sue here, perfect shape, perfect fighting, and can outsmart and out-punch any situation.

That said, the guy whooped some ass, and you could use the Reacher fight scenes as a clinic on how to practice to take out one or several henchmen in your everyday life.

Overall, it's a decent watch, and I hope they get a season 2 and a chance to polish this a little more, and give it some direction.
