Is Fidone going pro?

I haven’t given up on him, but he has not shown he is a difference maker at TE as billed. Not knocking him as those injuries are hard to overcome sometimes.
knee injuries are life long, your never the same again. you can live a normal life after a knee injury but playing football is anything but normal. sad, but i think he needs to focus on his education.

I think one of the biggest mistakes of the offense prior to Holgorsen was that they would play guys in situational rolls a lot. Which RB is going in there, depends if we need to pass/run. Which TE is in there? Even the QB package for Haarberg. If you and I could see what play was coming based on personnel, you know the studious coordinator on the other side knew.

Fidone functioning as a TE has deficits that can't be covered up, even though his upside in other areas is still really high (but still more potential than anything tangible). Holgorsen stopped doing that. And he even subbed Haarberg in but it was for a PASS play, to try and trick the defense.

We saw Fidone lose playing time after that false start, but I think it was more than that. He isn't reliable as a blocker in that position. The other two TEs got more time, including Boerkircher, because they can do all the things a TE needs to do. And its nonsensical to telegraph what you're running based on your personnel choices. If Fidone wants reliable playing time he has to be just as good of a blocker as he is a receiving threat.

Bottom line, I think Fidone moved lower in the depth chart. I think he sees that too. In fact, I think Holgorsen probably told him as much in plain language. He's a straight shooter. I expect Fidone was likely to transfer, but he's not sure yet. Is there a good opportunity for him out there? But that's why he may have been omitted from that conversation. If he does stay (I hope he does) he has a lot of work to do to get on the field.

I haven't heard about Boerkircher staying, but he's the guy we need. I'm also curious how they use Carter Nelson. If he's going to be a TE, we need some growth physically and ability to block a big guy.
