fwiw, four of the six computers used in the BCS had OSU ahead of Bama in the final BCS standings. Just still trying to tell you closed-minders that Bama being more deserving than OSU wasn't all that cut and dried. I personally believe that, because it was not cut and dried, the champions of the Big 12, one of the two top conferences in the country, should have gotten the lean on the second spot in the NC game over the runner up in another conference who already had played and lost to the team to be played in the NC. OSU didn't need to be clearly better than Bama to be given that NC spot, they just needed to be in the same gray area that Bama was, because Bama had its shot.

+1

Awesome post. It's amazing how much sense one can display by simply looking at more than one factor.

I would say someone who lives and dies off the opinions of said pros.........is an idiot. Many mentioned (pre-season and during the season while everyone was playing their games) that BigXII was probably the strongest conference. Is it debatable, of course. But no one would say that about a team that isn't comparable to the SEC to the very least.......so anyway. Let's try this:

Out of the 12 memebers in the SEC, 9 played in Bowl Games. (75% of the conference)
-Bama, LSU, Miss St., Vandy, S. Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas.
-of the 9........7 teams ended with a W (Bama, Miss St., Auburn, S. Carolina, Florida, & Arkansas)
-which means 3 losses...(LSU, Vandy, & Georgia)
-5 ended the season in the AP top 25 (#1 Bama, #2 LSU, #4 Arkansas, #9 S. Carolina, & #19 Georgia)
*Note two teams played each other which plays with the #s in wins and losses

Out of the 10 members of the Big XII, 8 played in the Bowl Season (80% of the conference)
-Mizzou, Texas, Baylor, ISU, OU, aTm, OSU, & KSU
-of the 8........6 ended with a W (Mizzou, Texas, Baylor, OU, aTm, & OSU)
-which means 2 losses (KSU & ISU)
-4 of the teams ended in the AP top 25 (#3 OSU, #13 Baylor, #15 KSU, & #16 OU.

With just that I think its a safe argument for the Big XII as being just as good as the SEC this year, possible saying better but that's a different argument. The funny thing is #3 OSU won it's conference and beat everyone of those teams that played in the bowls except ISU before the post season.......yet they are not considered great or worthy of a shot at the national title.........BUT........#1 Bama beat just 4 of the 5 teams on their list, didn't win their division, nor win their conference yet they are considered a great team and a HANDS DOWN choice as to being the best match up for the national title before the bowls.

Bias opinions help a person to ignore idiotic judgments.

Well since you like looking at wins

Let explore the smoke and mirrors you have created here by taking a look at the Big12's crappy bowl tie ins thus leading them to play INFERIOR opponents

Let examine who those Big12 wins came over and the final record of said team

North Carolina 7-6
Washington 7-6
California 7-6
Iowa 7-6
SEE A PATTERN DEVELOPING HERE????????????????????????????????
Northwestern 6-7
Stanford 11-2

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm stiff competiton wouldnt you say?

Now lets examine teams beaten by SEC and their final records

Kansas St 10-3
Nebraska 9-4
Virgina 8-5
Wake For 6-7
Ohio St 6-7
LSU 13-1

Not too difficult to see who beat the better teams is it? We are all well aware that the BIG12's bowl tie ins are a friggin joke, this just solidifies that point

I don't need a computer to tell me what I can see with my own eyes. I have no dog in the hunt. I dont care for the SEC, I dont like Bama. I watch football games and form opinions just like you are entitled to do.

The Rule of football that has dominated the sport as long as I can remember is that football is won in the trenches first. Defenses usually prevail over offenses. You should know that. There is always exceptions to the rules. I get that. I have a long long list of history and teams that prove that finesse teams rarely take home the prize. OSU is an inferior football team to Both Alabama and LSU, they would be physically manhandled the majority of the times they would play. OSU has no defense.

For all of you that want to point to LSU vs Bama games to say that LSU was not a good offensive team, I really dont know what to say. They had no problem putting points up against everybody they played except a great bama DEFENSE (go figure).

Oregons finesse and speed got them beat against AUBURN last year. who won the LOS last year? Auburn did. Oregons finesse and speed got them nowhere against LSU earlier in the year.

Go back and study history. Teams that run the football and stop the run win championships.

Its no mystery that the two most finesse teams in the NFL, Colts and Saints both won titles when guess what? they both finally had their best defenses to support their offenses. Other than that, Go look at the superbowl champs and you will see teams that play above avg defense. Most play and win with top 5 ranked defenses.

Oklahoma state was an incomplete football team. Their defense was and is a joke. You can spit out all of the computer numbers you want. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that they dont play on both sides of the ball.

Since so many love numbers around here, If you would like,I can list for you the last 30 superbowl champs and last 30 national champions and we can look at the common denominator in 90 plus percent of them. You got it...most every single one of them played great defense.

We currently have 3 of the most amazing offenses in NFL history this year. Saints, Packers, & Pats. Lets wait and see who ends up getting to lift the trophy at the end of the year. My guess is it might not be any of those 3.

OSU lost to chump, nearly lost two more, (KSU, A&M) and needed a missed 35 yard fg to win their bowl game. There is nothing elite or dominant about that.

Why aren't you using those gifts you've been given, living in Vegas in a 50,000 square foot house, playing golf all day and laying $20,000 bets in the sportsbooks? (unless it was your lifelong dream to live in the postcard city of Houston, in which case: ) ;)

because hindsight is 20/20 so easy....I have entertained thoughts of moving to Vegas and doing just this-just not on that grand of a scale-but I feel I'm pretty good at handicapping sports.

1. After my well written response this is what you have?

2. Not a big fan of Houston. I guess we are creatures of habits. I was born here and other than living in Pittsburg (when I was very young) Tulsa and San Antonio for a few years each, which I loved both btw...This is where I call home. I actually live in Cypress, Tx a suburb of Houston.

I've never been to Houston, so I shouldn't have implied it isn't a postcard city - I guess all that I have heard about it is that the urban planning could have been a little bit better during its boom years (maybe an understatement?).

None the less they beat them............regardless of bowl tie ins of the conferences............because the argument I just had with a co-worker was this exact same response (you don't happen to work at a correctional facility do you?........), and his argument justifying the easy schedule for Bama with their conference wins is it's not their fault Tenneess, Florida, Ole Miss, etc.....were mediocre (which is true) what matters is they still beat them. The same could be said about who they play in their bowl games. Big XII has a crappy selection compare to SEC's selections (or B1G) who's fault is that, not the teams playing in it. What matters is they beat the teams that stepped on the field with them and that's all you can ask them to do. So again, SEC does not hold it's boot on the Big XII's chest because both could be argued as the toughest conference this year.

And might I point out of the teams the SEC beat in the bowl games, KSU may be the only consistently good team in that bunch this year. The records for each of those teams don't tell the whole story about their talent and execution. Especially our own NU. That bunch probably is no better than the bunch that the Big XII beat in the bowls, IMO.

Yet NU was 2-1 vs that group

Yet NU was 2-1 vs that group

That's also true but I'm not sure how that rebuttals the post. That group is still not much different than the group beaten by the SEC.

For kicks we will say the top in the SEC beatens are LSU, KSU, & NU, 3 ranked opponents. Of the Big XII are Stanford, N. Carolina, & IDK California, 1 ranked opponent. But one of the SEC's top 3 beatens loss to the worst of the Big XII beatens. Which means the gap other that entire group is not as big as arms length away, truthfully. Wake Forest lost to the Tarheels, badly. tOSU lost to Penn St. who was beaten by NU who lost to Northwestern............see my point........the groups are no different from each other. You win the games you play simple as that because on any given Saturday.........

NOW......Who Can Argue With That?

Since this thread isnt going anywhere, A little hijacking cant hurt. ;)

Houston is a large, spread out, traffic ridden concrete arm pit.

+'s

great food and restraunts.
We have 3 pro sports teams if you want to count the Lastro's and Rockets.
decent housing market
we arent dallas

-'s
traffic
we are only 1 hour from the beach. The problem is that beach butts up to a body of water called the Gulf of Mexico. It often looks like a port o potty that needs changing out.
our surrounding lakes are nothing special.
funky allergies
hot muggy weather 7 months out of the year.
hurricanes use that brown body of water to visit our region.
you have to drive 2 to 3 hours to reach the nearest theme park (sea world or six flags) they shut ours down because it was dilapidated.
plenty of crime, must own firearms.

I could go on but I will rest.
