Would like peoples thoughts. I find it an interesting hypothesis.

I actually thought this was D Williams problem before he got hurt - he was trying to hard and maybe over amped for his first start.

They werent overrunning plays when they werent gassed in the 1st half. Those missed tackles had more to do with fatigue than anything IMO.

And to be honest, I want my players flying to the ball, going a thousand miles per hour, gang tackling, and playing with no fear of failure. If you make a mistake, make an aggressive one.

They should want to play like the Huskers of yesteryear. That should be the bar.

Hes a coach and watched it and came to that conclusion. I think its plausible, although probably a many issues

Not sure that is true, the play calls were different. The last series before halftime, when CU started throwing that little out pass to Nixon in the flat, is when we started missing tackles. And you can try to hard. I would prefer they run to the ball, but being who they are, not trying to be Jason Peters, and relax more.

“First half we did a good job of not trying to be the 90s and were super indifferent. 2nd half tried too hard to be the national title teams and it cost us.”

This is the same guy that tried telling us Northern Illinois had more talent than us after the 2017 loss I believe.

Fair argument, but there are always going to be missed tackles especially with athletes like Shenault and Nixon. But by and large, the tackling and pursuit was very solid in the first half. Those things break down exponentially when fatigue creeps in.

Let me ask...did you have a problem with their attacking style of play in the 1st half? As you watched, were you upset with their over-aggressiveness? Were you outraged by tons of missed tackles?

We really didnt have any issues until our defense was forced to play 25 plays in the 3rd period. (Thx Pops for the correction)

I can understand why the coach might think that, but if you asked Scott if that is the way he wants the Blackshirts to play (in the 1st half), I guarantee he would say yes.

We have seen season after season of guys being in position, but not making the tackles, or bringing only minor impact when trying to get guys to the ground. I'd prefer we continue playing aggressive, and learning how to incorporate some better technique with that speed and aggression. That's not as easy to replicate in practice, because I'm sure we are not telling our guys to go full speed and run through receivers so we reduce injuries. They need to continue and get comfortable doing that at game speed. When you look at some old film, you see some DBs that were very aggressive tacklers, so we know it can be done.

not sure I agree with this either. In the past, our guys were often out of position and trying arm tackles versus form tackles. I remember everyone questioning effort in the Callahan and Riley eras, not so much with Bo - but my remembrance is they were hardly ever in position after year three on D.

I do want aggressive, but it is the relaxed aggressive, not the adrenaline filled, pressure aggressive.

Bolded not true, TOP was about dead even for both teams

Time of possession is not the stat you should be focusing on. The fact that Colorado had 25 offensive plays in the quarter will gas any defense, especially in the higher altitudes. Couple that with it occurring in the second half does not help. Anyone watching the game could tell that they were gassed. Hell even Frost said so.

With that said, it was a poor choice of words that I used, so you are right arguing the time of possession stats. My overall point was our offense couldn't stay on the field and our defense was forced to expend a lot of energy. I don't think any of us could argue that point.

CO ran 42 plays in 2nd half compared to NU 38. Longest poss for CO was 3:07. 2 of the 2nd half touchdowns by CO happened in 2: 05. I think it's fair to say both defenses had their hands full. I believe Frost said they were gassed, question would be what is the cause that needs to be addresses because before the game Frost said altitude should not be a factor.

Who cares what the defensive backs coach at Callibasas high school thinks? This guy is a turd.

I would think the 25 plays in the 3rd quarter probably got the wheels on motion. That combined with the altitude was probably the death knell. Just a guess.

But I think Scott is full of it regarding the altitude. I really do. It is always a factor unless you dont run a bunch of plays or that you are in that much better shape than the team that is used to playing in that environment.

But I guess as the head coach, he doesnt want to use that as an excuse....despite admitting his team was gassed. He really is speaking out both sides of his mouth. Kind of like the no fear of failure mantra but being afraid to throw a pick in OT.

Lets face it, I think he is going through growing pains just like his kids. But I still have faith that he is the man for the job. GBR!
