Indiana Week Practice Thread: 17 Oct Coach Rhule

These numbers seem accurate. I posted the Sagarin ratings SoS earlier. It signals to me it'll be a tough game. But the best part of our team is our defense. JMO.

If Dylan is the competitor I think he is...I think he has a great game.

Think about how he played vs Illinois. The only INT he threw was not his fault and by all accounts we should have won that game by at least a TD.

I think this is the coming out party for 15. I do.
I have said this several times so I apologize if you have heard it before. One ace in the bag for us is we have had good defensive stats in spite of an underwhelming offense. But even our offense has performed very well one half of each game. Indiana has been consistent throughout all of their games. That tells me we have a higher ceiling. If we can get a complete game out of our offense and maybe hope our defense can make them struggle a bit than we flip the narrative on who the better team is.

They've been consistent throughout all of their games against extremely poor competition.

3 Big Ten teams - Maryland, UCLA and Northwestern - who are arguably the worst three teams in the conference.
There isn't a team Indiana has played that has a winning record.

Indiana is a veteran team playing with confidence ... that is a dangerous combination. But they shouldn't be a TD favorite and their performance to date has been against sub-par competition.

I like messing with BRM.
I was just curious what he was seeing that i wasnt
I think he loves our team, probably is like a typical neurotic Husker fan (we all are) and has reason for the last 10 plus years. I also think he is nervous because he does love the Huskers.
Yeah, i have no reason to think otherwise
Winning this game convincingly will do a lot for all of us to quell our fears. And we ALL have been waiting for it for SO long.

GBR
It will be another corner turned, for sure

I think 7 points is about right

Most on here are NOT underestimating a non-traditional power.
What do you expect Coach Rhule to say? Something like "IU is NOT a top 10 worthy team, tehy suck and we should beat them by 40"?

Please tell me, based on the data below:

1) Who is their best opponent to-date?
Going into this week, it looks like Maryland, though Northwestern may change that opinion by years end.

2) Their only two road games have been against arguably two of the three worst teams in the conference, what would you have predicted their record to be before their season began?
See above about Northwestern. They’ll likely finish in the bottom half, but I don’t think their Purdue bad. UCLA is going to struggle to win another game, but likely won’t be as awful as their record is. On Indiana, I figured they’d be a 4-5 win team. At this point in the year I thought 3-3.
Momentum is a real thing. Home field advantage is a real thing. Fox's pre-game show will be in Bloomington. Crowd will be ramped up.

This will be a good test ... but you seem to think that we are out-manned, that IU should be more than a touchdown favorite.

Yeah, there are those who maybe isn't giving IU their due. 6-0 is notable and they should be congratulated for it. But for anyone to question the validity of their record or the magnitude of the point spread is not blasphemous.

I don’t think we’re out manned at all, but the bolded above is going to make things difficult.

We could win, we could lose. I don’t think they’re a great team, despite their record and we should be able to give them all they can handle.

I don't ... There is absolutely nothing that suggests Indiana is a better team than Nebraska. Nothing, their stats are accumulated against piss poor competition. They've played 4 of their 6 games at home with really bad UCLA and Northwestern being the only two road games.

Home field = 3 points
Therefore Indiana is still 4+ points better than Nebraska? I don't see it.

It's where the money says it is. Nothing more

I think everyone who posted in this thread, not directly about practice and press for this weeks game, should get a thread ban -- including me. Take your well crafted strawmen somewhere else.

You’re right.

My bad.

I sometimes forget where I’m posting.

Easy. I’m not saying much of anything you’re saying here. So please don’t start a sentence with “You seem to think…”. If I think something I’ll let you know. My point is simple. The odds are what the odds are. The rankings are what the rankings are. It’s not just coach speak to say they may be worthy of top-ten right now. They may be 7-5 in a few months and not worthy. That’s the thing about the polls and why a legit playoff is always so elegant. It’s an away game against what appears to be a solid, well-coached team. Both teams have their weaknesses and strengths. Neither team is outmanned here (although I like our D-line against their O-line). To put a number on it, I think it could be anything from a 21-point loss to a 21-point win. Seriously. In today’s game, how do you anticipate anything else. My primary message is that those who think IU is a pushover or not a legit foe because they are Indiana, start watching the games. Regardless of competition they are winning their games. I don’t care who they’ve played. Other teams aren’t finding ways to win against every “lesser” teams in spite of the mismatches on paper. Many fans haven’t quite wrapped their heads around what open transfer and NIL has done to rosters. It remains to be seen how good IU is, as it does for the Huskers. Pretty confident neither of them run the table going in. But what I’m getting exhausted by is this nonstop noise around the board and with fans generally that certain teams — always the same cast of Penn St, Ohio St, Alabama, etc. — are automatic losses and other teams — everybody else — are “should win” games. Especially the “should win” games based on the name on the jersey. Ridiculous. And although you may not, a lot of fans DO underestimate the non-name teams — there is very much a feeling of how good can an Indiana or Rutgers or Illinois team be? Every game is a battle. Do I think IU wins big? Not likely, unless the turnover bug hits and the defense repeats the Illinois game. If NU can establish a running game (or at least a possession game), keep mistakes to a minimum, and they can manage special teams at a DIII competency, I see a six to ten point win.

This post of yours is actually risking a ban.If you was being truthfully, you would have included the info in this post. It really is that simple. So obviously, intentionally being obtuse. What's the post number in this thread where you claimed you tried to message me? Seems simple enough.
You copied and pasted the exact quote and didn’t even see it. Post #59. Now let it go.
