Indiana v. NU, Game #3, 3/29

It didn't start out well We were down 2-0 before Katskee recorded his first out. However, he settled down and only allowed one more run in six innings of work. The hitters did a great job with two outs today.
So far, this team is nothing like last year's team...........and others!

I agree….but I want the temper it a bit.

I believe we were way too over aggressive the last few years…. In both are hitting and pitching approach.

Way too many ground out and fly outs on first pitch….

Not a lot of patience…. Not seeing enough pitches to get the feeling for a pitcher.

And our “go for the throat” in early two strike counts used to drive me crazy. Pitchers were throwing a hittable pitch with 0-2 and 1-2 counts.

Not nibbling at a corner or a high fastball to see if they would chase… at least once. And I can’t tell you how many two strike early count hits went against us.

We aren’t doing that at all this year…. We are much more patient in both hitting and pitching.

So I think you have to have the right time to be aggressive.

Timmerman showed exactly that…. and our hitters are waiting to be aggressive on the right pitch after seeing several from the same pitcher.

It’s paying off in spades this year.

Also, we are striking out way…. way less this year..

Putting the ball in play puts the pressure on the defense to make a play…. And if you’ve noticed in almost all of our games…. were putting the bat on the ball….. a LOT and the enemy is making errors.

Great analysis of this season, so far, John! Spot on, my friend.

Wonder if this game will be on B10 Network, being as the game was run by Husker students. I will skim thru it soon. :)
